I have a Masters in Public Health from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. I received my Bachelor of Sciences in Pre-Medical Studies at Philadelphia University. I also got a post-baccalaureate from Drexel University in Pre-Medical Sciences which has exposed me extensively to all sorts of clinical and gross anatomy and physiology. I work as an Anatomy and Physiology Lab Instructor at Philadelphia University. I also work in the life sciences industry working with knee and hip implants. I also tutored as a work study during my undergraduate career in A&P I and II. I am most passionate about science, environmental health, and health policy. I am used to using all kinds of tools to teach students the material. I am proficient in personality and learning skills typing which helps me customize the tutoring experience for my students. I am passionate about the use of technology so expect to use many technological tools for educational purposes. In my experience helping struggling students prepare these tools can be of great help breaking the ice into the material before and after sessions. I am a firm but kind in my teaching ability and I promote and encourage students to understand the material in a way that is always interesting and applicable to their daily lives. In my spare time, I enjoy singing, writing, listening to music, and watching TV shows.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Overview all topics we want to review through a syllabus or lesson plan.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Providing materials they can use on their own, when we are not working together in sessions.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Listening to their ideas. Usually students know the best way for them to learn new things.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Repeat, repeat and repeat.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Visual cues, reading/listening cues, physical/sentient cues.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I usually use handouts, presentations, videos/animations, and the Internet.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Use games, videos or animations online.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Being kind and patient, and asking ahead of time what specific topics the student needs help with.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Making it about something applicable in the student's daily life.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Giving them constant feedback and reassurance.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I request a syllabus or topic list and then, in the first class, I ask about every single topic to test proficiency.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I identify the type of learning the student has (visual, reading, kinesthetic, etc.) and try to mold to their needs.
