Certified Tutor

I graduated from the University of Mary Washington with a BA in Latin and Classical Civilization/Archeology and a Virginia Teaching Certification. I worked with an archeological team at Washington's Birthplace, taught for a year after school and then went into the automobile business until my daughters were in middle school. I got a MAL degree with a concentration in Sociology from Hollins University and taught part-time for a community college. I started teaching full-time (World History and Latin) and decided to branch out and became certified to teach Math and Algebra 1 ( I had never really liked Math, so I can really connect with Mathaphobes). I decided to become certified in Social Studies and English because I enjoy them. I have taught/tutored Latin 5-12 and AP, Sociology, Social Studies/World History, Math, Algebra 1, English and Reading in both public and private schools as well as online. I enjoy my students and everything I teach, but guess I probably like Classics the best.

I know how easy it is for a student to get lost in a class of 25-30 students and how it is to feel lost or so far behind you don't think you will ever catch up. I also know that anyone can learn almost anything; it just depends on the teacher, the student and the motivation. I love tutoring because I am able to get to know my tutees and see exactly what they need from me and figure out how I need to best present/explain the material so they will understand.
