I believe every student can learn and I enjoy helping them discover their abilities at excelling in math and science. Math and science are my two favorite subjects and I am passionate about helping young people understand and utilize the concepts of the subjects so they may excel in school. I received my Bachelors degree from the University of Missouri in St. Louis in the field of Secondary Education and am currently working towards another degree in Mathematics. I have a total of 7 years experience working in the field of education with the most recent teaching science full time. I am currently available to tutor in mathematics, science, and social studies. My teaching style is very engaging and I like working one on one or in small groups with the student as I feel it gives them more focused attention on what they need and I do all I can to help them relate the concepts they are learning to the world around them. Learning is a life long process and I love the opportunity to teach and learn from the students I work with.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student can and wants to learn, and because everyone is unique, the teacher must work toward the strengths of the student and their learning styles to be able to unlock the student's learning potential.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
In the first session, I like to get to know my client, so that I can understand how they learn, what their interests are, and how better to help them achieve their goals.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
When a student has difficulty with a skill or concept, I try to break it down to a step-by-step problem solving process, as well as relating it to something that is present in their world, so that they can develop their own unique understanding of the concept.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I build a student's confidence in a subject by helping them understand how to master concepts, work through the material with them, then let them work it out on their own. Through this guided process, I have found a lot of success in helping students develop confidence in different areas of study.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would give the student lots of positive reinforcement to encourage them to keep trying, and celebrate their successes to keep them feeling positive.
