Certified Tutor

My name is Christina Yu and I am currently a full-time graduate student at Arcadia University. As an individual who is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Education for Early Elementary Education, I am devoted in helping children learn and grow as students. As I am pursuing a career in education, I am highly interested in all aspects of academically and socially nurturing for children of all ages. I have had several teaching experiences throughout high school and college, which includes after-school programs and private tutoring. For approximately three years, I have dedicated my afternoons to working with students, ranging from kindergarten to seventh grade in assisting them with their homework and school curriculum during the regular school year. I have also assisted teachers with lesson preparations and attended to all students’ individual needs during the Saturday and summer school sessions. In addition to gaining experience from an after-school program, I have also provided private tutoring sessions aligned with the Common Care Standard in Math from grade levels 2 through 4. I’ve also worked with children ages three to five in a Sunday School setting, facilitating and providing crafts and activities; as well as serving as a teacher’s assistant at a daycare center during my high school years. Having worked in these settings, I have grown to become more patient and understanding of the differences in pace for each and every child. By directly communicating with the kids throughout all of these experiences, I have had the advantage to adapt to all kinds of personalities and have grown to appreciate my time teaching kids and learning from them simultaneously. I can adapt to the needs of the student in order for them to make great strides in learning and retaining the required material. I have not only practiced becoming a better educator by being familiar with the material and implementing them to the students, but have also learned of the current public school situations and what is desperately needed for students today. As an aspiring teacher, I have gained a great deal of confidence, professionalism and enthusiasm in my work and in my teaching career ambitions.
