Crystal
Certified Tutor
For as long as I can remember, I have always been enthusiastic about reading, writing and English. I spent a lot of time reading as a child and feel that it has been a benefit to my life. Reading is my passion! Through my education and experiences in life, I believe that I have more than enough tools to arm my students for their future. I am a dedicated and easy going person that enjoys working with children and adults all while attempting to have fun. My method of tutoring is relaxed and straight to the point. I believe in games when appropriate and hands on learning when necessary.
I have a Bachelor's degree in English and soon a completed Master's degree in Reading and Literacy. I have worked with both children and adults on and off over the past 10 years. My tutoring subjects are reading (phonics, grammar, public speaking), writing, English, and ESL/ESOL areas and I look forward to working with you!!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
One of the most typical things that I do in a first session is to get to know my clients on a more personal level. Both children and adults need to feel comfortable with a new stranger. My hope is that, by the end of the session, both the client and myself are little friendlier than when we began. The next thing I like to do is give generic diagnostic material to see the best point of reference to start with the client. Lastly, I discuss with the client the plan moving forward to reach their goals.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
The best way to help a student become an independent learner is to teach a student critical thinking skills.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Sometimes learning need to be fun! The best way to motivate students is to incorporate a sense of humor, fun, and academic task, as well as constant encouraging words.
