I have been studying Italian language and culture for ten years, including attending full immersion programs at the Universit per Stranieri in beautiful Perugia, Italy. I graduated from Arcadia University with a B.A. in Italian.

My background in Spanish language began in college, and I was able to improve very quickly through my travels to Per over the last three years.

I look forward to meeting you and working together!

What is your teaching philosophy?

Working with my students in an active way so they learn while having fun.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

We would talk about what they are most interested in working on and their learning goals, and get to know each other.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By helping them find ways to relate what we are learning to their own lives and what interests them.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By always letting them know their progress and improvement.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

We would take it slowly and use lots of examples.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Reading slowly and putting ideas together piece by piece.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Finding out what the student is interested in is important to make sure tutoring sessions are worthwhile and enjoyable.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

We can use examples that can help them relate the subject matter to their own life.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Having them explain what we learned back to me in other words and completing examples on their own.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Starting with easier concepts and slowly building so they do not feel confused and can see their own progression and the progression of the subject matter.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Practice examples, conversation, and asking them what they want to improve on.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Different students prefer different styles, so I always "read the room" and change my speed, topics, and manner of speaking to suit what they feel most comfortable with.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

We can use worksheets, boards, images, charts, video, audio, and readings.
