Certified Tutor

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Philosophy, a Master's Degree in Adolescent Education, and am currently NYC-certified as a Special Educator for grades 7-12. Although I am certified to teach all four core subject areas, I am particularly proficient at teaching Math.

For the last two years I taught at a public school in the South Bronx, and have succeeded in getting some of the toughest kids around excited about learning while simultaneously challenging already advanced students to improve. During this time, I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with a ton of students of varying behavioral and academic needs, and am comfortable working with most any student.

Whenever I teach, I strive to make content memorable. I use a variety of tricks and mnemonics to help students remember strategies and processes, and relate content as much to the real world as possible to get students excited about learning skills and information that they will actually need throughout their lives. Once my students learn these fundamental strategies and processes, we then delve into why these strategies work, and what makes them work; in other words, habituating students to think critically and meta-cognitively about what they are doing.

And, most importantly, I feel strongly that every student is capable of meaningful learning and of being successful. With this belief at the forefront of my teaching, I excel both at encouraging struggling learners and accelerating advanced learners to achieve more than they ever believed they could.
