What is your teaching philosophy?

Assess your knowledge, and build from that towards your academic goal. Give you the knowledge and skills to solve the problems you are facing, and make sure you master them.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Assess your level, build rapport, and determine immediate and mid-term goals. Set the tone of the conversation and make sure I am meeting your expectations.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Guiding you to build the self-esteem needed to know you can figure out the answers only by applying your intellect and desire to learn.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Setting short-term goals and helping you achieve them, and setting rewards along the way. Then, guiding you to set the next goals yourself and tutoring you to reach them.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Breaking the reading into pieces you can master and then putting them together. If that fails, create analogies that give you the same knowledge with things you are familiar with.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Selecting materials that the student is interested in; breaking the reading into smaller, easy to comprehend sections; and encouraging him to realize he can do it. Then, moving onto bigger and more challenging pieces.
