I am a current undergraduate student at Asbury University in the Communications program. My major is evidence of my teaching philosophy: smooth written and spoken communication is paramount to a successful career and meaningful relationships. Therefore, I am available to assist students with their essays, speeches, and more. I have experience with students of all ages, from elementary school to high school. I also have experience taking the ACT, and find the English, Science, and Reading portions to be the most fascinating. Besides a Public Relations major, I am also an equine studies minor, and find horseback riding to be one of the most fulfilling forms of exercise. When I am not at the barn, you can probably find me reading, journaling, or playing with my dog.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Clear communication skills are the foundation to any field of study. It is paramount for a tutor or teacher to teach those skills, no matter the subject.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would encourage the student to find an aspect of the assignment at hand that they enjoy, and develop their skills in that area.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Having a student take the role of tutor or teacher and explain the content to a parent, friend, or even his/her tutor would be a great benchmark.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would establish a connection with the student and also evaluate what the student's goals were for having a tutor.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would try my best to find multiple different ways to explain the concept and find the one that makes the most sense to the student.
