What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would start by figuring out what kind of learner they are: visual, auditory, hands on, etc. Then I would get an understanding of their issues with a given subject. I'd answer some of your questions. I'd ask you some. Then we'd get to work!

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

That's the goal! I want to provide you with an understanding of the subject area so that you feel confident to do it on your own. We will work together to a certain point, then we'd try letting you do it on your own.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Keep track of progress! If we work hard there will be progress REGARDLESS; even if it is small, there will be some! We will track how much we've grown from the beginning so that you see how much more you know about a certain subject!

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Reading comprehension is related to critical thinking. If we practice the art of thinking critically about a text, we are able to better comprehend what the text is saying, what it means, and then are able to answer questions about it.
