Certified Tutor

Teaching is my favorite part time activity. I am an experienced teacher with relevant skill in educating, guiding, mentoring students in undergraduate, graduate and financial certification courses. I have been mentoring High School and college level students for many years now. I have a special knack towards this activity because of its inherent challenge. One cannot outshine as a good tutor unless one is an effective communicator and presents every thought in a simple understandable manner. This is precisely the niche that gives me an edge over others. I have always handled complex and challenging tasks systematically and have adapted myself to their needs achieving outstanding performance at the end. I believe learning is fun and make the whole process as interactive and straightforward as possible so that at the end of the day, the students can grasp the concepts without going through a rigorous stress. I am always available for any course related questions outside the class. Aside from having experience in proactively leading many classes, online sessions, training and presentations, I possess an excellent knowledge, which is reflected in my overall GMAT (740 out of 800) and TOEFL IBT (114 out of 120) score. I have attended the prestigious KTDP program of the prestigious KAPLAN institution. I have been involved in tutoring assignments with Manhattan Elite Prep for the past 7+ years. With more than 10 years of work experience in the financial services industry, I can bring to students the correlation between theoretical knowledge and the practical know-how.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Tailor to the level of the student and help him succeed.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Understand her strengths and weaknesses, goals and expectations.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By providing him with necessary tools/competencies and then allowing him to discover it himself.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Once he has grasped the basics, giving him enough challenge.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Visualize the concept with him.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I help students who are struggling with reading comprehension by teaching them to follow some simple rules like read the question first, jot down the main points, etc.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I have found it successful to understand his strengths and weaknesses, praise the student when he does right, and help him with areas where he is struggling.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would keep a student engaged by understanding their concern with the subject and helping them grasp the basic foundation in simple terms.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I test that the student understands the material by giving sample problems. Sometimes these problems are variations of same problems that touch all the key concepts.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I build a student’s confidence by working slowly and steadily. When a student grasps the basic concepts, he or she progresses from attempting easy to medium to hard questions.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I evaluate a student’s needs by probing him as much as possible, along with observing him when he attempts a question.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I customize the time spent on the different topic areas based on the student's personalized requirements.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Once the primary textbook is finished, I introduce books from various popular authors, as well as questions from past tests.
