Certified Tutor
I have been tutoring for several years in all subjects. I have worked with children as early as second grade and up to seniors in high school. I currently work in Shelby County Schools in an eighth grade math classroom. By working with students one-on-one and also in a classroom setting, I have grasped an understanding of what can be useful to help students understand and grasp concepts. I am comfortable tutoring Elementary and Middle School Math, Algebra I and II, Bridge and Finite Math, Pre-Calculus, General Chemistry, and ACT. I currently attend The University of Memphis as a double major in Biomedical Engineering and Chemistry.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a first session, I generally like to talk to the student to find out where they believe they stand in the subject matter. I also like to complete a few small tasks to help myself gauge where the student is. I feel that open tutor-student communication is key to creating the best learning environment.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
The best way that I have found to help a student overcome difficulties learning a new concept is to apply the concept in some way that interests them. With many boys, I have found that it is helpful to relate probability to football drafts and Fantasy Football.
