I am currently a sophomore at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I am majoring in English and Spanish and want to continue onto graduate school to get a Masters of Education in School Counseling. I love to help others in general, but I particularly enjoy helping others when it comes to academics, as I have always been an avid student. That's why I think tutoring will be great field practice for me, as I'll be able to dip my feet in the water of being on the giving end of academic assistance instead of just the receiving end. What is your teaching philosophy?
I think the best way to go about teaching something to someone who may be struggling is to guide them along with as little assistance as possible. Obviously, it is necessary to teach them what they don't know, but it is also important to help them have that "Ah-ha!" moment, which I feel usually comes when you've had a chance to turn the information over in your head a few times.
