My passion for working with students was solidified one day when I watched an adolescent girl explain the origin of malaria and prevention to her illiterate parents. She was a member of a youth program designed by a local non-profit organization I worked with in Mozambique for eight years. During these wonderful years, my classroom consisted of dusty floors, a roof of acacia leaves, and the permeable walls of community centers. My fellow peers in learning have consisted of children, chiefs, literate and illiterate. After moving back to the States with my family in 2012, I taught in institutional schools for five years. I have been a high school English teacher for the past five years. From urban environments to traditional school classrooms, I am comfortable engaging and working with the youth of America.
