Hello! My name is Jessica, but I go by Jess. I believe learning is a reciprocal process, and I have as much to learn from those I work with as they do from me, so I approach my tutoring in that way. I find it important to take time in the first few sessions to get to know my students and establish mutual respect for one another. This will allow me to relate things to their interests, as well as, create learning experiences that are engaging and helpful.

I have been a preschool teacher, an elementary teacher, a middle school English teacher, and now I work as an adult literacy educator. During my time as a middle school teacher, I was given the amazing opportunity to work with emerging bilingual students learning English.

I received my B.A. in English Literature at the University of California, Santa Cruz. and have a Master's degree in Education from the California State University of Monterey Bay.

Hobbies

Outside of teaching, I spend a lot of time outside or with my nose in a book. When I combine the two, I'm in heaven! I also spend a lot of time working on my growing indoor jungle and playing with my two pups.
