I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Aya

Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Simon Fraser University where I received a Bachelor of Art's Degree in Linguistics, a Certificate of Speech Sciences, and a Certificate for Teaching English as a Second Language. I have a strong passion for sociolinguistics, teaching, and writing.

Teaching and tutoring allows me to help others find and refine their own unique voice. My teaching philosophy is centred on adapting to each of my student's unique strengths and abilities, by fostering their individual potential as strong and confident writers. In my experience, learning to write can be a fun and inspiring process. Writing can be equally creative, informative, and highly practical for use in all facets of professional and personal life; from job applications to thesis statements.

I have experience teaching English as a Second Language to young-adults and adults from all over the world. I have also tutored in writing, essay writing, and thesis construction. Coming from a multicultural and multilingual background, I understand and appreciate how strong language skills can foster independence and confidence. In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, learning new languages (currently French and Japanese), and spending time in nature.
