Hi! My name is Sarah and I'm a proud Varsity Tutors' tutor of almost 3 years. I have 3 Business and Accounting degrees and I specialize in Intro to Financial Accounting, Principles of Financial Accounting, and Intermediate Accounting. I tutor students by showing them how to confidently zoom in on the accounting details and zoom out to the big picture so that they can be better more astute accountants. I have over 12 years' experience in the Accounting field. I use not just Business Ethics and Business Law to supplement my knowledge of Accounting to College Business majors; I also use my knowledge and my 3 Business and Accounting degrees to help High School Business projects.
Although no Mathematics major, I confidently use Elementary and Middle School Math daily to calculate my Financial Accounting statements, ratios, and formulas. I took Finite Mathematics and have studied College Algebra in depth both pre and post college.
I use test prep (ie: CLEP) to tutor in Financial Accounting; Western Civilizations 1 & 2; Introduction to Business Law; History of the United States 2; American Literature; College Composition; Analyzing & Interpreting Literature; English Literature; & College Algebra. I specialize in helping you as the student conceptualize the material and make effective use of your study time. Time management is key.
I have studied Classical and Ecclesiastical Latin 1-3 for 16+ years now. My teacher was the Oxford Medieval Latin and History scholar, Dr. Richard Gerberding, and he taught me Beginning Advanced Classical and Ecclesiastical Latin as an undergraduate. He taught me to relish the 2 pivotable concepts of Latin grammar and vocab to the effect of becoming a better translator and opening the door to more in depth linguistic studies. I combine my love of Latin with the Classics not just the Classical world but also the Ancient and Ancient Mediterranean History as well so that you get a first glimpse of what a Classical graduate major is like. My favorite books are Wheelock's Latin, 7th edition, and Fleischer & Moreland's Latin: An Intensive Course. My favorite book to translate is Ille Hobbitus (THE HOBBIT) from Latin.
I am proficient in Biblical and Modern Hebrew (the alphabet consonants & vowels pronunciation and words) as well as ancient and modern Jewish History. One of my favorite epochs of modern Jewish History is the Yom Kippur War because of a Jewish POW that translated THE HOBBIT into Hebrew for the first time. (Col Rami Harpaz is a fascinating person to study!) My favorite Hebrew book currently is 1000 Hebrew Words and it has both Biblical and Modern Hebrew words.
I have over 4 years' experience as an English Literature & Composition undergraduate major. I can help with not just fictional & creative writing but also essay editing, spelling, grammar, writing and literature. I also can help with CLEP courses that replace English 101, English 102, and American or English Literature.
I am a devoted follower of the risen Christ and so I base my Ethics (including Business Ethics) and World Religions principles around that belief. I tutor in Biblical truths and homeschool in like matter.
I was a double major in English and History for 4+ years and am also currently a Military History graduate student in training. I have studied a variety of historical disciplines over the years of my academic training, ranging from British History, US Constitutional History, World Civilizations, American History, Military History, Medieval History, and Classical History, and I happily mix and match historical epochs in reading to present an interesting timeline to the student. You will never be bored!
Although I help College, Adult, and beyond, I am best well-known for my work with K-12 students, especially in after school programs. Roughly speaking, I help with elementary school, middle school, and high school and I am a tutor in Reading, Writing, ELA, Math, Social Studies, Reading Comp, Accounting, Business, and American Literature.
Perseverance is everything! I will show you how to take baby steps toward the academic goals of your dreams until you reach your goal. Whether it be an A on your final grade, project, or a thorough understanding of a subject, I can help you get there because winners never quit and quitters never win (Vince Lombardi)!
