Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of the University of Michigan. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and English (double major), and I have 30 credit hours toward a Master of Arts degree in World History from Washington State University. After graduating from the University of Michigan, I joined the US Army and retired after a 30-year career. While in the service, I had extensive teaching experience: I taught US soldiers and soldiers from foreign countries on military and medical subjects, I taught English grammar and usage to Iraqi citizens interested in learning the English language, and I spent three years as an ROTC instructor at Washington State University. Each of these opportunities was very fulfilling for me because it allowed me to illuminate the minds of those I taught. I am most passionate about teaching History, but I also enjoy enlightening minds on the beauty of English Literature. I am a strong proponent of education; I think it is key to individual success in the world, and a requirement for improving the life of the community. I would describe my teaching style as Socratic, helping students come to a better understanding of History and English through a questioning process that allows them to think their way to understanding.
