Certified Tutor

I served 35 years with the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department (last five years as Fire Chief), retiring in 2016. Since that time, I have been a fire service consultant and grant writer. I have a deep passion for the fire service and particularly individuals who are beginning their career or seeking advancement through promotions. I have extensive experience tutoring and mentoring for fire entrance and promotional exams, as well as providing leadership tools. It is a joy for me to see individuals I have shared with realize their dreams of either becoming a firefighter or becoming officers in the fire service. Currently there are 5 fire chiefs around the country that I had the privilege of tutoring and mentoring through their careers (Rockwall (TX), Lancaster (TX), Dallas (TX), Las Vegas (NV), and Cincinnati (OH). I exhibit a collaborative style of teaching where the student participates and provides feedback along the way to ensure comprehension. This method has proven to be a successful model. Outside of fire service work, I love spending time with family (married 41 years) and traveling.
