I have been tutoring math for over 9 years, since I was in grade 11. I recently graduated with a BA in Mathematics from McGill University, and will be starting my Master's in the Fall. Although grades are far from the only thing that matters, I did achieve a perfect GPA in my program, with A's in every math class.
Over my many years of tutoring, I've developed my own style, which I believe is effective and fun. My main thesis is this: Most difficulties in first-year university-level math classes are not difficulties with the material itself, but a lack of proper background knowledge and proficiency.
As such, I spend a lot of time digging towards the bedrock of my students' difficulties. That is, I do not just attempt to drill in new material when the foundations on which it rests are clearly shaky. Rather, I work backwards, trying to find where understanding stops, and work forwards from there. While this takes more time and effort, it allows one to truly understand the material, and potentially even appreciate it as satisfying and fun.

I certainly love mathematics, but it alone cannot keep me happy nor entertained. To that end, I really enjoy rock climbing and playing the drums, and have pursued both of these quite seriously!
