If you are a registered nurse or practical nurse candidate who is preparing to take the NCLEX, Varsity Tutors can set you up with the Chicago NCLEX prep that will best suit your needs and learning style. Taking the NCLEX is an important part of the career path of any RN or PN, and even though you might have learned about its content at the University of Illinois at Chicago or Loyola University Chicago, it's always helpful to thoroughly review the material with a Chicago NCLEX tutor or in a prep class.

What Subjects are Covered by Chicago NCLEX Prep?

The NCLEX - or National Council Licensure Examination - is administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. to test entry-level nursing competence. It actually refers to two exams: the NCLEX-RN for registered nurse candidates, and the NCLEX-PN for practical nurse candidates. Both exams cover similar material, but there are slight differences between the two. Both exams are divided into four categories. These are Safe and Effective Care Environment, Health Promotion and Maintenance, Psychosocial Integrity, and Physiological Integrity. If you take the NCLEX-RN exam, the Safe and Effective Care Environment category will include the Management of Care subcategory, and the NCLEX-PN will include the Coordinated Care subcategory. The NCLEX-RN will also include the Parenteral Therapies subcategory under Physiological Integrity.

A good Chicago NCLEX preparation course or private instructor will not only help you prepare for the content on the exam, but they will also help you become more familiar with the exam format. The NCLEX is administered through Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) which re-estimates your ability after every question you answer. This is to prevent the exam from being too easy or too hard. The goal is to evaluate your true ability level, so you should find each question challenging. With each question that you answer, the computer's estimate of your ability will become more precise.

What are the Advantages of Each Type of Chicago NCLEX Prep?

Varsity Tutors can set you up with two different types of Chicago NCLEX prep. Both options have their advantages, and some candidates have opted to make use of both of them. Most seem to choose one or the other, however. The first option is a Chicago NCLEX prep class. This class is taken entirely online and allows you to communicate with other students and instructors via a chat program. You will also have a virtual whiteboard to take notes and participate in learning activities. This can be very helpful if you are the type of learner who does best in a collaborative classroom environment. You will be able to ask other students for advice and help them in turn, and you might even learn about concepts that were unfamiliar to you before. If you need any extra help, you can also reach out to your instructor for a one-on-one meeting outside of class. Since these classes are entirely online, you can participate from wherever you have a stable Internet connection; there is no need to commute to a physical classroom or worry about missing class due to an illness. New NCLEX prep class sections are opening up all the time, so you should be able to find one that fits into your schedule.

If you would prefer private instruction, we can also set you up with a Chicago NCLEX tutor who will work with you. This private instructor will give you their undivided attention, and they will be able to tailor their lessons to suit your learning style and focus on any learning opportunities that you might miss in a classroom setting. For example, you might know quite a bit about the nursing process, but Communication and Documentation might be an issue for you. A private instructor will be able to work with you to help you better understand how to record documentation that adheres to the standards of practice and accountability that are expected of you as a nurse. Naturally, will also be able to learn at your own pace and set your own schedule since most of your study sessions will be online.
