The SAT is one of the most important tests you will face as a high school student, even though it may not feel like it. Most students take the SAT during their junior or senior year, which is long before the scores will have any real-world value. You see, the main benefit of doing well on the SAT is wowing college admissions officials. Of course, this is tied to the most significant risk of doing poorly on the test which is failing to impress the colleges you wish to attend.
If you will soon be facing the SAT but you haven't really thought about how you'll prepare for it, or if you've been preparing but aren't sure you've done enough to achieve the results you want on your own, we can help. Signing up for a Dallas Fort Worth SAT course is a great way to support your preparation efforts. Working with an experienced instructor to review a carefully designed plan of study in a supportive group setting is an efficient way to spend the time you have available to study for the SAT. You don't have to do this alone. Continue reading to learn more about what will be on the SAT and how Varsity Tutors can help you prepare with a Dallas Fort Worth SAT class.
What could a Dallas Fort Worth SAT cover?
The SAT is a comprehensive exam that evaluates your mastery of the content areas you studied in high school classes. The mandatory sections of the ACT are Math, Reading, and Writing and Language. These three sections are all multiple choice, and you will have a total of three hours to complete them. The SAT Essay is an optional section that will test your personal writing ability. If you opt to include this as part of your testing experience, you will have an additional 50 minutes.
It is essential to take into consideration the time you will have for each section of the SAT. At first glance, it appears that you will have ample time to work through the sections. But when you take a closer look at the breakdown of the time allotted for each section, it becomes clear you will need to manage your time carefully. You will not have the option of speeding through a part that is easy for you and then using the additional time to work through more challenging material methodically. Becoming familiar and comfortable with the format of the test, not just the content which is covered, is something you can work on as part of your Dallas Fort Worth SAT course.
The Math section of the SAT is broken into two distinct parts. In one part you will be allowed to use a calculator, while in the other you will not. For the portion that does not allow a calculator, you will have 25 minutes to answer 15 questions. During the part that allows you to use a calculator, you will have 55 minutes to answer 30 questions. When you're preparing for this section of the SAT, it is vital to do so with the right calculator if you don't want to be unpleasantly surprised on test day. Some of the skills you will be evaluated on as part of the Math section of the SAT include algebraic skills, mathematical expressions, and problem-solving. These two portions of the Math section of the SAT are combined during scoring. Between them, you have the opportunity to earn between 200 and 800 points.
The Reading section of the SAT has 52 questions. You will have 65 minutes to answer all of the items. Some of the skills you may want to review include reading comprehension, critical thinking, and extracting information from tables, graphics, and charts.
The Writing and Language section of the SAT assesses grammar, punctuation, subject-verb agreement, sentence structure, vocabulary, analytical thinking, and other assorted skills associated with written English. You will have 35 minutes to answer the 44 questions in this section. The Reading and Writing and Language sections are combined during the scoring process. Between the two you have the opportunity to earn between 200 and 800 points.
If you choose to take the SAT Essay, you will have 50 minutes to write one essay. Your technical writing skills will be evaluated in this part of the SAT as well as your ability to understand and evaluate an argument and then present your finding with evidence. This is not an essay where your opinion of the author's position is expected. Instead, you are required to evaluate how well the author has put together their argument and offered supporting evidence and then write an essay explaining your findings. If you have challenges with any aspect of writing, SAT prep can help you refine your skills.
How can a Dallas Fort Worth SAT class help me prepare?
Classes are held in an online space that is structured similarly to a physical classroom. You will meet with your instructor and classmates as you review relevant SAT content. In addition to delivering the lessons during class, they may also facilitate group projects or discussions to help you further deepen your understanding of the material. By taking a structured class as part of your SAT preparation efforts, you will have the opportunity to review the core subject areas covered by the SAT and become more familiar with the testing format.
Working in an online environment makes it easy to get to class without the added time or hassle of adding a commute. Classes are divided into sections, with new sections starting every week. This type of scheduling gives you the flexibility to start when you're ready and focus on areas of particular importance to you. You can choose between two and four-week class options to ensure you have an appropriate amount of time for your review.

Hi, I'm Kenzie! I'm a Mechanical Engineering student at UT Dallas and I've been tutoring online for 4 years now. My favorite subjects to teach are math and science, but reading and writing come in a close second. ... I introduce myself and try to get a feel for what the student is struggling with in particular. I then address those questions or problems by starting at the foundations and trying to help my student get a good grasp of what they are trying to do.
