What could a Kansas City GRE class help me review?
The GRE is used in over 160 countries across the globe. The test is computer-based in many areas of the world, and it takes roughly three hours and 45 minutes to complete. As you prepare yourself to take the GRE, it is important that you're aware of the three sections that are featured in the test, which include Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. Let's take a more thorough look at each section.
The Analytical Writing section will allow you 60 minutes to complete two separate tasks, which factors out to 30 minutes for each task. In one task you will be analyzing an issue, while in the other task you will be analyzing an argument. The Analytical Writing section is meant to assess a variety of skills including articulating complex concepts effectively and clearly, supporting ideas by providing both examples and reasons, examining claims using evidence, maintaining a clear discussion, and your command of written English. Strategies to keep in mind for this section are also important to note. These can include assessing the task and directions, planning your response, writing the response, and checking your response over for any errors and clarity if time allows.
Up next we have the Verbal Reasoning section, in which you will be allowed 60 minutes to complete two parts that feature 20 questions. You will encounter three separate types of questions in this section, the first of which is reading comprehension. Reading comprehension questions involve reading short passages and then demonstrating your understanding and evaluation skills by answering 1-6 related questions. There are roughly ten of these types of questions per test. Next, you will be expected to answer text completion questions, where you will decide the best answer for blank sections of brief passages. Finally, you will encounter sentence equivalence questions, in which you will be expected to use partial information within a single sentence to choose the best answers for how it should be completed. The Verbal Reasoning section is meant to test skills including summarizing a passage, analyzing a text and reaching conclusions about it, and the ability to interpret meaning from context.
Thirdly, you will be expected to take a Quantitative Reasoning section. This section focuses on four content areas: arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. The Quantitative Reasoning section is set up to assess basic math skills, understanding of math concepts, and the ability to use logical reasoning and problem-solving skills in order to solve problems using quantitative methods. The question types that you can expect to encounter in this section include quantitative comparison, multiple choice, and numeric entry.
Lastly, you may be expected to participate in an Experimental section and/or a Research section. Both of these sections will be unscored and are used specifically to try out new questions for potential future use. If your test includes an Experimental section, it will be embedded within either the Verbal or Quantitative Reasoning sections and will not be identified. The Research section comes at the end of the test and could take the place of the embedded Experimental section. The Research section is both identified and optional.

...but I especially like working with students on fundamental knowledge. There is something truly wonderful about seeing something "click" for a student. My teaching philosophy is simple: Nobody is simply "bad at math!" Most people have convinced themselves of this, but it simply not true. They simply haven't found someone with the patience and background to guide them to a solid understanding. One of the best ways to help someone on their learning journey is...
