Whether you've hit a wall in your GRE preparation process or you're just beginning your journey, Varsity Tutors can sign you up for an Ann Arbor GRE course that could be helpful as you prepare to take the test. The GRE is utilized by many colleges and universities as a part of their graduate school admissions process. If you are interested in attending graduate school at Rackham Graduate School at the University of Michigan, it will benefit you to perform well on the GRE as it could boost your chances of getting accepted.
The GRE is offered in more than 160 countries and it takes approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes to finish in its entirety. In most countries around the world, it is available to take on a computer. The GRE covers a lot of material across several different subject areas, including math, reading, and writing. While some of the skills needed to perform well on the exam may come naturally to you, there may be others that require a bit more work. Rather than slogging through these areas on your own, you may find it useful to work with an instructor in an Ann Arbor GRE course.
What can an Ann Arbor GRE class help me review?
There are many different areas an Ann Arbor GRE class could help you review. The GRE consists of three sections, including the Verbal Reasoning section, the Quantitative Reasoning section, and the Analytical Writing section. All three focus on different areas, which can make the GRE difficult to prepare for. Many students may be proficient in one area, but they may need extra work in other areas. For example, you could have a firm grasp on the vocabulary words that may show up in the Verbal Reasoning section, but you may have trouble with the geometry that could show up on the Quantitative Reasoning section. As such, working with an instructor and other students in an Ann Arbor GRE course could be helpful in shoring up the areas you're already strong in and working on making strides in the areas you need extra help understanding.
The Verbal Reasoning section contains two different sections that have 20 questions each. You will have an hour to complete this section and it is scored between 130 and 170 points. This section consists of three types of questions, including text completion, reading comprehension, and sentence equivalence. The questions concerning text completion involve reading over short passages and being able to decide on the best option to fill in the blanks within the passage.
The reading comprehension questions focus on reading through passages of varying length and demonstrating that you understood them by answering questions related to the passages. There are about ten passages on the test and each passage includes anywhere between one and six questions. Finally, the sentence equivalence questions require you to take partial information you found within a sentence and fill in the blanks based on the context.
The Verbal Reasoning section is designed to test several different skills, including your ability to evaluate passages, your ability to interpret meaning based on context, and your ability to analyze text and make conclusions.
The Quantitative Reasoning section also has two sections that contain 20 questions each. This section is also scored between 130 and 170 points, but you are given an hour and ten minutes to complete it. This section covers material like data analysis, geometry, algebra, and arithmetic. It is designed to test your ability to use quantitative methods to solve problems, your ability to understand math-related concepts, and your ability to demonstrate basic math skills. This section also contains three different questions types, including numeric entry, multiple choice, and quantitative comparison.
The Analytical Writing section includes two questions that you'll receive 30 minutes each to complete. This section is scored between 0 and 6 points and has one question that asks you to analyze an issue, and another question that asks you to analyze an argument. This section measures your ability to support your ideas with reasons and examples, your ability to explain complex concepts, and your ability to write in English.
While content review likely won't be much help when it comes to the Analytical Writing section, there are still ways an Ann Arbor GRE course can help in your preparation for this section. One of the areas the class can help is by giving you an idea as to the types of questions that may show up in this section. You can also practice planning out your response and writing it out to try to ensure that you're staying within your 30-minute time limit for each question.
How can an Ann Arbor GRE course help me prepare?
There are a variety of ways in which a GRE course can help you prepare for the test. One of the most important areas when it comes to preparing for a test like the GRE is simply going over the material that could be on the exam. This could mean going over vocabulary words to try to make sure you won't be stumped by a word you don't recognize on the test. This could also involve going over math formulas you haven't looked at in years so you have an idea of how to approach a particular math problem on the test.
In class, you will be joined by an instructor and other students. The idea behind this setup is to provide an opportunity to hold discussions and collaborate with your peers, which can be a useful aspect of preparing for an exam. Taking an Ann Arbor GRE course that Varsity Tutors can connect you with involves attending class in an online setting. This allows for more flexibility in terms of scheduling because you don't have the added time of a commute. New courses begin every week, and you can choose between a two week or four week session based on your needs.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. I have been tutoring for the past 10 years.... I believe that a passion for learning is contagious, and a joy in teaching encourages participation and engagement in learning.... Tutoring is more private and personal, hence I spend time building mutual trust and confidence. It is essential to identify why the student seeks tutoring, what they expect from tutoring, and how much time and effort they are willing to spend. Next, we will prioritize objectives and develop a game-plan together. Lastly, I want to dive into the material and give the student something immediately useful after their first meeting.
