Varsity Tutors can help students who are getting ready to take college admissions exams by setting them up with dependable Las Vegas ACT preparation services. College admissions can sometimes be a lengthy and difficult process. Before filling out college applications, you will need to sit for one of the major college entrance exams such as the ACT. In fact, most students in Las Vegas, including those at Advanced Technologies Academy and West Career & Technical Academy, take the ACT as their preferred college admissions exam. Your score on the ACT could be the only thing standing between you and your dream university.

The ACT is a wide-ranging test that's made up of five sections. These sections test various skills and require a thorough understanding of the subject areas. Whether or not you have already begun studying for the ACT, you may be thinking of how to get the most progress in the limited time you have before test day. Varsity Tutors can help connect you with a Las Vegas ACT tutor if you are contemplating extra help. A Las Vegas ACT prep class may also be a more suitable option if you are looking for a dynamic, online learning platform. Whichever you prefer, we can get you set up with a class or tutor that can help you meet your learning objectives.

What does a Las Vegas ACT prep cover?

As highlighted before, the ACT consists of five sections including English, Math, Reading, and Science. The Writing portion of the exam is optional. If you decide to complete the written assignment in addition to the four required sections, you'll have an allotted time of 3 hours and 35 minutes. If you choose not to complete the voluntary segment, then you will have a combined total of 2 hours and 55 minutes to finish your exam. However, the times we just listed do not include breaks, so it does not cover all of the time you will be at the testing facility.

Now that you know the exam duration and which subjects will be present, let's take a closer look at each section and the specific content that they cover. The English section is scored on a scale from 1-36, and it has 75 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 45 minutes. The English section includes passage-based questions which measure your understanding of English, production of writing and knowledge of Language skills. The English section also looks at sentence structure, topic development, style and tone of language, grammar, and punctuation.

The Math section has 60 multiple-choice questions to be finished within 60 minutes. It is scored on a scale from 1-36 and allows the use of calculators. This section measures mathematical skills you would have already acquired in courses up to the beginning of grade twelve. The subject areas tested include pre-algebra, elementary and intermediate algebra, coordinate and plane geometry, and trigonometry. Quick thinking and analytical skills are needed since you have an average of 1 minute to answer each question.

Next, you'll take on the Reading section. You'll have 35 minutes to answer 40 multiple-choice questions. Again, time is limited here, so quick processing skills are vital in this section. It is scored on a scale from 1-36. The section will test overall understanding and not the mechanics of English. You are required to know word and phrase meanings, differentiate between facts and opinions, and make connections between different texts.

Finally, the Science section has 40 questions to be completed in 35 minutes. This is scored on a scale from 1-36. The Science section includes subjects such as biology, chemistry, earth/space sciences, and physics. This portion of the exam measures your ability to manipulate and analyze scientific data presented in varying formats.

The optional Writing section gives you 40 minutes to write a response to one question, and your score can range between 2-12. This essay question presents a prompt that presents an issue and three different perspectives on the issue. You must write a response that states your own perspective and analyzes the connections between your claims and at least one of the three provided perspectives.
