If you are interested in having your student attend an Orlando area private school, it may be a good idea to enroll your student in an Orlando ISEE class by reaching out to Varsity Tutors. The ISEE is a test that is used as a part of the admissions process for many private schools. It is not the only aspect taken into consideration when it comes to admissions decisions, but doing well on the test may increase the likelihood of them getting into the school of their choice.
The ISEE is broken down into four distinct levels, which are based on the grade level of the students taking it. Students who are going into second through fourth grades take the Primary Level, students going into fifth or sixth grade can take the Lower Level, students going into seventh or eighth grades take the Middle Level, and students entering the ninth grade or above can take the Upper Level test.
The Upper, Middle, and Lower levels of the test all have five sections. Additionally, each section has the same number of questions across the three levels and students have the same amount of time to complete each section on each level. The Primary Level has either three or four sections depending on the grade level, with students in second grade taking four sections and students in third and fourth grade taking three sections.
What can an Orlando ISEE course help my student review?
An Orlando ISEE course can help your student review the various topics that are covered in each section of the ISEE. The Upper, Middle, and Lower levels of the test contain a Verbal Reasoning section, a Quantitative Reasoning section, a Reading Comprehension section, a Math Achievement section, and an Essay section. The Primary Level contains a Reading, Math, and Writing section for students in third and fourth grades and an additional Auditory Comprehension section for students entering second grade. What follows is a breakdown of the various sections on each of the four levels of the ISEE and the topics your student can expect to encounter on each of them.
Verbal Reasoning
Students have a maximum of 20 minutes to finish the Verbal Reasoning section, which contains 40 questions. At the Upper Level, this section features high school-level vocabulary and asks students to answer questions concerning synonyms and parts of speech. The Middle Level test features a combination of middle and high school-level vocabulary and suffixes. Finally, the Upper Level test covers a combination of elementary and middle-school vocabulary.
Quantitative Reasoning
Students have a maximum of 35 minutes to complete the Quantitative Reasoning section, which contains 37 questions. At the Upper Level, this section focuses on math related topics, such as quadrilaterals and triangles, the perimeter of geometric shapes, and exponents. The Middle Level test covers geometry, data analysis, and algebra, among other topics. Finally, the Lower Level test looks at more basic math skills, such as addition and subtraction.
Reading Comprehension
Students have 35 minutes to finish the Reading Comprehension section, which contains 36 questions. At all three levels, students need to read through passages and answer questions. However, there are differences in the types of passages they'll be reading and the types of information they'll need to look for. At the Upper Level, students will be asked to compare and contrast information and look for organization and logic in each passage.
On the Middle Level test, students are asked to find and use information presented in the passage and infer information that is not explicitly stated within the passage. Finally, the Lower Level test has students focus on the main ideas contained within each passage.
Math Achievement
Students have a maximum of 40 minutes to complete the Math Achievement section, which contains 47 questions. At the Upper Level, this section involves solving word problems, working with exponents and variables, and working with triangles and quadrilaterals. At the Middle Level, this section places an emphasis on proportions, ratios, and the properties of operations. The Lower Level test covers data analysis, probability, and whole numbers, among other topics.
Essay
Students have 30 minutes to finish the Essay section and it only contains one question. This section has students write an essay based on a topic that is of interest to students at their grade level. This section measures students' writing skills when it comes to punctuation, spelling, organization, and grammar. It also serves as a chance for students to let their potential schools know a bit about themselves. '
Primary Level
Students in the second grade have a section known as the Auditory Comprehension section. This section has students listen to six passages and answer questions about them. The Primary Level ISEE also has a Reading, Math, and Writing section. The Reading section focuses on vocabulary, the Math section covers basic mathematics, and the Writing section has students write a story about a picture.
How can an Orlando ISEE course help my student prepare?
An Orlando ISEE course can help your student prepare for the test in many different ways. The course takes place online so it's easy to find time in your student's busy schedule to fit in ISEE study time. You don't have to stress about getting them to another activity after school because they can just take the course at your house.
Orlando ISEE courses are designed to resemble a traditional class as much as possible. As such, your student will have the chance to work with an instructor and other students. Working with other students can be helpful because it gives your student an opportunity to participate in class discussions and group activities. Some students have a hard time focusing if they're expected to just listen to an instructor for an extended period of time. Working with an instructor gives them an opportunity to review material that may be on each section of the ISEE.
How can I enroll my student in an Orlando ISEE prep course?
Enrolling your student in an Orlando ISEE prep course is as simple as reaching out to Varsity Tutors either over the phone or online. You can sign your student up for either a four-week or two-week course.

Eleven years of classroom teaching and several years of tutoring has shown me that learning has so much to do with confidence. Let's build your confidence while we build your skills so that tomorrow will become easier than today! ... My plans for the first session would be to complete a "getting to know you activity" with the student and complete assessments with the student. I would also like to see any assessments the school may have done as well as some examples of classwork and homework. These items will help me to gauge where skill deficiencies and strengths may be, and also see what the expectations of the student's teacher are.

No one ever said that everything we do will be easy. Easy happens through hard work and learning. It doesn't matter how slowly you go so long as you don't stop because then what you do will be worth it.... My philosophy is aligned with that presented by psychologist Carol Dweck. She sees the necessity of a growth mindset in learning where people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.
