Many students don't realize what a critical mistake they've made with their solo SAT prep until it's too late. It's easy to overlook test preparation efforts when the outcome of the test is so far away, but college admissions officials will be looking at your SAT score, and it could be a deciding factor on whether you are accepted at your favorite college.
What can San Diego SAT prep cover?
The SAT is comprised of three core sections; Math, Writing and Language, and Reading. You can also opt to include the SAT Essay section. If you choose to take only the core sections of the SAT, you will have three hours to complete the test. If you add the Essay section, you will receive an additional 40 minutes.
It's important to note that while there are three required sections and three total hours, the time is not evenly distributed between the parts of the exam. You will have 80 minutes to answer 58 multiple choice questions in the Math section. The Writing and Language section only gives you 35 minutes to answer 44 multiple choice questions. During the Reading portion of the exam, you will have 65 minutes to answer 52 multiple choice questions. It is crucial you become familiar with the format of the test, so you can manage your time more wisely. The SAT does not penalize you for making an educated guess as to which answer is correct. However, if you leave an answer blank because you didn't reach it, there can be disastrous scoring consequences. Working with professional SAT prep resources can help you become more familiar with the content and format of the test, so you can work towards optimizing your testing time.
Throughout the SAT, your ability in a variety of skills will be evaluated. In Math, you will be expected to solve problems involving linear equations and systems, use math skills to understand data and solve problems, and understand the structure of expressions. Some of the specific Math skills you will need to develop include solving problems quickly and accurately and making connections between properties of linear equations and their graphs.
In the Writing and Language section, you will need to display a command of evidence, use and identify words in context, analyze historical and scientific topics, make choices to clarify sentences, and use standard English conventions. Some of the areas of language you may want to include as part of your study regimen include sentence structure, punctuation, verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and parallel construction.
In the Reading section, you could face a single literary passage or a pair of passages from historical documents. You will have some passages which are related to the social sciences and others related to science. As part of your SAT prep for this section, you may want to review utilizing context clues, drawing inferences and conclusions, understanding and defining how authors present and support their arguments, and identifying relationships between a text and supporting data.
The SAT covers much of the material colleges expect you to be proficient in before you begin your freshman year. When you make the time to prepare for the SAT, you are not only preparing for an important examination; you are also working towards mastering the skills you will need at college.
What are the benefits of taking a San Diego SAT prep class?
Classes are constructed in segments, and new segments begin each week. This design makes it easy to get started when you're ready without a lengthy wait. You can choose two-week or four-week classes depending on how many topics you need to review and how much time you have before the SAT.
Your class material is delivered in a secure online classroom which works in the same way as a traditional classroom. Your teacher will offer instruction and then may facilitate group projects and discussions as needed. When you or your classmates have a question, you have the opportunity to ask the instructor for assistance.
How is working with a San Diego SAT tutor different from a course?
When you work directly with a personal tutor, you have the instructor's undivided attention. Instead of spending time reviewing concepts you've already mastered you can skip right to the topics you need the most help with. This type of targeted instruction can be invaluable for students who only need to review a few key areas and don't want to sit through sessions covering familiar material.
The way the material is delivered is also personalized when you work individually with a private instructor. A San Diego SAT prep course teacher must focus on the needs of the entire class when they present information. When you work with a personal tutor, they have the time to get to know your personality, learning style, and academic needs. They can use this information to create your lessons, so the material is more personally accessible.
Finally, working with a personal instructor offers a greater degree of scheduling flexibility. Instead of signing up for a course that has a set time, you can choose when you meet with your instructor. Sessions can be scheduled on the weekend and throughout the week during the day or in the evening.

It's therefore always important to have a solid grasp of the basics - to understand the previous steps - before learning...
