The student was able to finish a draft of the essay that is due tomorrow on the book they read in class, Fahrenheit 451. She will type it up at school tomorrow and show the teacher. She will ask the teacher if she should work on a second draft next week.

The student planned out his research essay and we discussed sources and how to approach his first draft/outline. We then did some SAT improving paragraphs and made a schedule for our SAT strategy. After he was getting most questions right, we decided to move on to error IDs. We learned some of the major topics and did practice questions. We will brainstorm a good strategy for him to learn the many idioms he will need to know.

This afternoon's session consisted of lots of literature vocabulary review. I quizzed the student by stating the word and then having her state the definition. We then went over the correct definitions, and I helped her come up with different acronyms or mnemonic devices to help her remember the more difficult terms.

We went over previously assigned paper today and discussed how to form a more complete argument and using more mature vocabulary in writing. We then worked on an opinion piece together, doing the pre-writing as an example of how to come up with a full fledged paper that is well thought out.

We studied for the student's English final by writing out the definitions of vocab words and revisiting grammar worksheets that he had completed previously. He definitely seems prepared for the grammar portion, and, after reiterating the literary definitions, he should be prepared for the multiple choice portion of the final as well.
