When you have decided to take the System Operator/Power Dispatcher Selection System (SO/PD), Varsity Tutors helps you connect with the right tutor for your needs. The Edison Electric Institute Sponsored a nationwide research study that led to the development of tests to select and evaluate candidates for System Operator/Power Dispatching (SOPD) positions in energy control centers of electric utilities. Taking a SOPD prep class and developing personalized learning plans can help you achieve increased confidence, strong test-taking skills, appropriate and individualized study plans, and determination to pass the test. SOPD courses make it easier for you to learn and grow by facilitating individualized study plans. SOPD classes allow you to work with a skilled tutor in a one-on-one environment.
As you will see in the data section below, the SO/PD test battery is computer-based, requiring candidates to read the questions from the computer, then listen to tones, and finally respond using a computer mouse or keyboard. The test takes about two and a half hours to complete. SOPD classes can help you with the sections of the exam where your response time will be measured as part of your score.
The SO/PD II Test Facts
- Computer-based
- Requires candidates to read test questions on a computer screen, listen to tones, and respond using a computer mouse or keyboard.
- Allows approximately two and a half hours to complete all sections of the exam
SOPD prep can focus solely on the topics you choose. If you feel strongly you have the knowledge to pass the first section, Analytical Thinking Skills, you can dive straight into Mathematical Usage and its role in your career. Your instructor can readily switch it up to help you as you build your knowledge of these and other concepts. As the only student in your SOPD classes, your instructor can patiently explain material in as many ways as you need until you feel confident you have adequate knowledge to pass the exam.
Using Mathematical Usage as an example, SOPD prep classes will look into the Mathematical Usage Test that measures candidates' skill in working with basic mathematical formulas. The questions will be based on information provided in the test. Mathematical Usage test includes sixteen questions and has a seventeen-minute time limit. Your SOPD prep may include answering example questions while timing your work.
Your SOPD course will focus on the topics below.
- Section 1: Analytic Thinking Skills - Argument
- Section 2: Analytic Thinking Skills - Problem Solving
- Section 3: Analytic Thinking Skills - Logic Based Reasoning
- Mathematical Usage
- Reading Comprehension
- Multi Tasking Simulation
