If you are searching for a Spokane ISEE prep course for your student, consider getting some help by reaching out to Varsity Tutors. Under the guidance of a highly trained instructor, your student will be able to collaborate with other students and gain insight on how to study for the exam. The ISEE, otherwise known as the Independent School Entrance Exam, is a test that admissions offices at independent schools will look at to assess the skills of applicants. Since you want to ensure that your student can impress the independent school of their choice, it's important that you get them the help that they need for this exam.
When you get your student enrolled in a Spokane ISEE course, you won't just be giving them the tools that they need to succeed on the ISEE. You'll also be equipping them with skills that they'll use throughout their entire academic career and beyond.
What topics can my student review in a Spokane ISEE course?
There are four different levels of the exam that will correspond with the grade level of the student. These are Upper Level, Middle Level, Lower Level, and Primary Level. The exam will assess how well students can write, work through mathematics problems, read critically, and understand the mechanics of the English language. Let's have a look at each level to get an idea of what students will face.
On the Upper Level of the test, taken by students about to enter the ninth grade or above, students will face a Verbal Reasoning section. This portion of the test will evaluate how well students can complete sentences and answer questions about synonyms. They should have a strong vocabulary and knowledge of Greek and Latin prefixes, suffixes, and roots. The Quantitative Reasoning section will test how well students can think mathematically. Students must be able to solve equations, work with probabilities, analyze data, and calculate the area and perimeter of shapes. In the Reading Comprehension section, students must be able to critically analyze what they read. Upper Level students must be able to compare and contrast, make inferences from the passages, and understand the author's purpose. On the Essay Section, students will be given an interesting prompt to write about. Students must demonstrate their ability to organize their piece and use proper grammar. The Math Achievement section will focus on a student's ability to perform mathematical operations, take measurements, work with shapes, and use coordinate grids. Whereas the Quantitative section focuses on mathematical thinking, this section evaluates mathematical operation skills. This layout will be similar in each subsequent level.
On the Middle Level of the exam, taken by upcoming seventh and eighth graders, they will have a Verbal Reasoning section that tests their knowledge of age-appropriate vocabulary and word clues. It's also necessary for them to know suffixes, prefixes, and roots. Quantitative Reasoning will cover topics such as algebra, geometry, integers, decimals, and fractions. In Reading Comprehension, students must be able to answer questions based on the passages and compare and contrast information. The Essay Section will give them an age-appropriate prompt and enable them to tell the school more about themselves. Math Achievement will consist of topics such as prime factorization, ratios, and Venn Diagrams.
In the Lower Level, taken by upcoming fifth and sixth graders, students must respond to a Verbal Reasoning section where they'll use context to complete sentences and demonstrate vocabulary that is appropriate for their grade level. The Quantitative Section will test their knowledge of mathematical operations like addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. Students should also have a grasp of shapes and probabilities. The Reading Comprehension section will test their ability to identify the main idea of a passage and find important bits of information. The Math Achievement Section will test their ability to work with simple operations, whole numbers, decimals, and patterns. The Essay Section will test their writing abilities by giving them an interesting prompt.
On the Primary Level, which is taken by students entering second grade through the fourth grade, there will be a Level 2 Auditory Comprehension section where students listen to passages and respond to questions. For Levels 2, 3, and 4, there will be a Reading Section to test vocabulary and reading comprehension. A Math Section will include basic math operations. The Writing Sample will consist of a photographic prompt that students must base a story on.
How can a Spokane ISEE course help?
When your student enrolls, they will be given access to a course where they can get a comprehensive review of test topics. For instance, if your student is struggling with the mathematical problems, an instructor might walk them through the problems to give them some perspective on how they're solved. If a student is having a hard time with reading, the instructor might show them some helpful study techniques. Additionally, this is a collaborative environment, which is a great way for your student to broaden their knowledge of the topic. This way, students can share their own knowledge with each other in order to clarify the concepts that they'll need to understand for the ISEE. As an added bonus, students can also schedule one-on-one time with the instructor. Here they can get individualized instruction on topics that they may be having a particularly difficult time understanding.
Classes have been designed with maximum convenience in mind. When you start, you can pick between a four-week class and a two-week class. There are multiple class sections that begin on a weekly basis. Also, don't forget that the classes are based completely online. No more worrying about the hassle of getting your student to a specific place on time. All that you need is a computer with a strong internet connection and the student is ready to go!
How do I get my student enrolled in classes?
A Spokane ISEE class can help your student get a better grasp on the concepts that they'll need to know for the test and boost their sense of confidence when they sit down to take it. When you enroll your student in classes, you'll have peace of mind in knowing that they are getting the proper instruction they need to bolster their study skills and prepare for their academic career.
