If you're a Syracuse undergraduate or professional hoping to be admitted to a law school such as the Syracuse University College of Law, Varsity Tutors would be happy to support you by setting you up with the right Syracuse LSAT prep to assist you in reaching for your goals. The LSAT is one of the more difficult obstacles you will face when preparing to apply to the law school of your choice. Designed to assess you on the skills needed to succeed in law school courses and a future law career, the LSAT evaluates you on Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, and Logical Reasoning.
Your score on the LSAT is based on the number of questions you answer correctly. The exam consists of five 35-minute sections, all containing multiple choice questions. Four of these sections will contribute to your score. The unscored section, also known as the variable section, is used to test out new types of questions or evaluate new test formats. The placement of the variable section changes and you will not know which section is unscored until after you have received your score. In addition, the LSAT also includes a 35-minute unscored writing essay. With so many skills being assessed, you will want to do a comprehensive review to effectively prepare for the LSAT. An LSAT review course can help you gain confidence in your ability to do well on each of the assessments. Continue reading for more information about how LSAT prep can assist you during your LSAT review.
What can a Syracuse LSAT prep course cover?
The scored portions of the LSAT assess you on Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, and Logical Reasoning. Each of the sections, along with the unscored Writing assessment, test you on different types of skills. Let's take a closer look at each section, starting with the Writing portion of the LSAT.
You will have 35-minutes to complete your writing sample. A writing prompt will present you with a decision problem and you will be asked to choose between two positions or courses of action. You will need to be able to defend your choice. You're not being assessed on choosing the "right" or "wrong" position. This section of the LSAT allows you to showcase your argumentative writing skills. Copies of your writing sample will be sent to all the law schools you apply to. Law school admissions offices will look at your reasoning skills, clarity, organization, use of language, and writing mechanics. This is your opportunity to show that you are able to make a logical and clear argument using sound evidence.
The next section is the Reading Comprehension assessment. This is a 35-minute section which evaluates your ability to read a passage and understand examples of the types of difficult texts similar to the ones that you will have to read in law school. An LSAT course can help you practice determining the main idea or primary purpose of a particular passage as well as being able to infer information or ideas from the passage. You will also want to be able to apply the information in a selection to a new context and be able to determine the impact of new information on a claim or argument. Practicing these skills in an LSAT course will help you with improving your skills under the supervision of a knowledgeable instructor.
The Analytical Reasoning section contains questions which evaluate your capacity to understand the structure of relationships and your ability to draw conclusions about that structure. An LSAT course can help you practice comprehension of the basic structure of a set of stated relationships or how to reason using conditional statements. He will need to be able to determine what could be true or must be true based on facts which you are given as well as being able to infer what could be true in conjunction with new information presented in different hypothetical situations. You will also need to be able to recognize two statements which logically equivalent in context. These are skills that you will need in your law career as well during your LSAT exam, so an LSAT review course can have long lasting academic and professional benefits.
The Logical Reasoning assessment is split into two separate sections, each of which you have 35 minutes to complete. The section assesses your ability to critique, analyze, and complete an argument. Content in the section can come from newspapers, magazines, advertisements, or scholarly publications. The skills assessed in this section of the LSAT are your ability to recognize the parts of an argument, recommend similarities and differences between patterns of reasoning, identify flaws in arguments, and ability to draw a well-supported conclusion. All of these skills can be practiced during a Syracuse LSAT prep course where you can receive immediate feedback about your progress and which areas you need to improve.

I love working with every type of student to help them reach their goals. As an English Ph.D. student, literature remains at the center of my educational journey. Reading and the skills that come with it--comprehension, analysis, critical thinking, empathy--are of utmost importance. I work hard to balance between challenging and encouraging my students. My excitable disposition and energy help to motivate learning and reinforce confidence in their own minds.

I am currently in law school and completing a masters degree in international relations. I hold an undergraduate degree in finance, and have previously worked designing new financial products. I believe in teaching with real world concepts that students can relate to, so the material can be learned for more than just passing a test.... Cater to the learning style of the individual.... I love the humanities because, with careful study, they build a person from the inside out. Languages, writing and the arts require you to engage fully with their subjects - to produce something unique, something that only you can offer. This, to me, is true learning. It translates into clearer thinking, better grades and greater satisfaction in life.

So, I know what it's like to really wrestle with a subject, and I know what kind of assistance is helpful (and what kind of assistance/teaching is not). I think this--empathizing with a student and knowing the difference between good and bad help--is the most important quality of...
