What's covered on the GRE?
The GRE isn't just an exam that's taken by individuals in the United States. It's actually administered in more than 160 countries across the world. GRE scores are accepted at thousands of institutions of higher learning. The exam takes around 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete and is typically taken on a computer.
There are three sections on the GRE, each of which assesses a different academic skill set. These sections are called Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. Taking a Tulsa GRE prep course provides a unique way to develop the skills that you'll need to demonstrate on your upcoming exam. Your course will go over the most important topics that are tested on each of these sections.
The Analytical Writing section has a time limit of 60 minutes and consists of two tasks that test-takers need to complete. These tasks involve analyzing an issue and analyzing an argument. The skills that are assessed on this part of the GRE include the test-takers command of written English, their ability to examine claims while using accompanying evidence, and their ability to clearly articulate complex concepts in a time-limited environment. The work that you do on this part of the GRE will be graded on a 0 to 6 point scale.
Next, you'll also take the GRE's section on Verbal Reasoning. There are two Verbal Reasoning sections that each contain 20 multiple-choice questions. This part of the exam is graded on a 130 to 170 point scale. This section will ask you to do things like read written passages and then respond to a series of questions about them. You'll also be asked to choose the best answer for blank sections of shorter passages. Finally, you'll also answer questions that require you to use partial information from a single sentence to select the best option to complete that sentence.
The last section of the GRE is called Quantitative Reasoning. This part of the exam was designed to assess a test-takers basic math skills, their understanding of core math topics, and their ability to use their problem-solving and logical reasoning skills to answer questions. Some of the math topics that you'll want to be familiar with before taking this section are geometry, algebra, and data analysis. This section is also graded on a 130 to 170 point scale and also features two sections of 20 questions each. You'll have an hour and ten minutes to finish the Quantitative Reasoning section of the GRE.
You should also know that the GRE has an Experimental Section that you'll also need to complete at some point during your GRE test. This part of the exam won't count towards your final score. However, you won't know which portion of the GRE is experimental since it's typically embedded within one of the other test sections. This means that you'll have to treat every part of the GRE as if it counts towards your final score just to be safe.
