Arlington Tutoring FAQ

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in Arlington?

It's understandable that you might have some questions about the cost of tutoring for students in Arlington. There are a number of factors that weigh into pricing, such as the expertise you require in your sessions.

The number of sessions you require can also play a significant role, with the cost per session possibly being lower if you commit to a higher number of sessions. It all depends. The cost paid by a parent whose student needs ACT test prep for a few weeks before the day of the exam could come in at one rate, while the cost paid by a college senior who needs ongoing support in an advanced science class could come in at another.

Which tutoring subjects does Varsity Tutors offer for students in Arlington?

If you're going to work with a tutor for students in Arlington, you'll want to know they can provide expert guidance on the topic where you need support. With Varsity Tutors, you can be confident you'll receive just that.

From writing improvements for your student transitioning to middle school to LSAT preparation for budding lawyers, the number of subjects covered is expansive. You don't have to be on an academic track for tutoring to be a smart choice, though. Business professionals preparing to move overseas, for example, might be interested in signing up for Japanese language sessions. Maybe you've always wanted to focus on reading and understanding classic English literature. There are ways tutoring can benefit individuals of all interest levels.

Why choose Varsity Tutors for tutoring in Arlington?

There are many advantages to securing tutoring for students in Arlington. One such benefit is the individual attention you'll receive during each 1-on-1 lesson.

This setup allows you to ask as many questions as you please to gain clarity on topics in a way that a teacher in a classroom setting might not be able to provide. More than that, your Virginia tutor can guide you through complicated issues you might run into during major exams. They can go step-by-step through various problems you might encounter on the MCAT, correcting missteps should they come up in order to prevent mistakes from becoming habitual.

When you start looking for resources to advance your understanding of a given topic, the array of options can seem overwhelming. Should you purchase a study guide? Download an app? Sign up for a class? And if you do go the tutoring route, how do you know if you're picking the right person?

We bypass the guesswork, not only because of our vetting processes but because of the care shown by our Educational Directors. They take the time to better understand your needs, concerns, budget, and scheduling restraints before making custom recommendations. They are all too happy to answer any questions you might have before getting you started with the right tutor for students in Arlington. Why wait any longer? Reach out to Varsity Tutors online today to get the ball rolling with your learning journey.

Tutoring review by Anna in Arlington, VA
Today we spent about a half hour reviewing sections 6.4-6.6, on which the student will be tested on Thursday. These sections cover percent change, application of percents (tips and commissions), and simple interest rate. We did 2-4 practice problems per section. In the percent change problems he still occasionally struggled with increasing an original amount BY something or TO something. In the former case, you are given the amount change. In the latter, you are given the new amount. He just has to go slowly, and define each piece of information that he is given in the problem. For example if a problem is given as "45 is increased to 50" then I have him write "45= original amount" and "50= new amount." He did very well with the application of percent problems. He now seems to fully grasp how to write the part out of a total as x/total. He also did well with the interest rate problems. We will do further review today, in the hopes that he will be fully prepared for tomorrow! I will try asking him to come up with some problems on his own.

The student and I reviewed proportions, dosage and safe range, military time, scientific notation, and Roman numerals. He was very enthusiastic about the material and tackled each problem in a way that was very effective. He has become very organized in his studying, which has clearly benefited him greatly. We will meet once more tomorrow so that he will be prepared for part 1 of his final on Friday.

We continued to go over 2.1 in her book on conjectures and inductive reasoning. The review today helped her understand it well and keep up with the pace of the course. As long as she can do some practice on her own as well as with me, then she will understand this section skillfully.

The student has a quiz tomorrow on finding the area of both parallelograms and triangles. He reviewed the formulas with me and then did 10 online review problems given to him by his teacher. When given a straightaway problem, he finds the answer easily, but finds word problems or two-part visuals more tricky. When the problem becomes harder, he often rushes the computation steps and this can result in the wrong answer. He knows the formula well, so I am hoping he can slow down enough to not make simple errors on the quiz. Next time we meet we will review decimals and other computation skills that he has learned in the past.

We worked on reviewing variables and expressions for the student's upcoming test on Thursday. I quizzed him on the properties of math (associative, inverse, etc.) to start, and he knows how to use each property, just not by name. He was able to identify each property with his notes as reference. He did very well at writing expressions from word problems, as well as substituting numbers in for variables in expressions. We had some discussion on math theory about how adding is related to multiplication and how multiplication relates to exponents.
