Tutoring review by Christopher in Bosque Farms, NM
During the session together, the student and I worked hard on completing his "mega" assignment for multiple classes, including English and math. The math component of this assignment consists of creating a binary tree, and we completed his binary tree by the end of our session together. Since he has a new teacher, and there has been somewhat of a transition period, resulting in minimal coverage of new topics, we worked on this assignment to maximize the time together. As always, it was a very efficient and productive session and I sincerely look forward to meeting with him again soon.

Tutoring review by Martine in Bosque Farms, NM
I practiced problems on stating the most specific name for quadrilaterals: kite, rhombus, rectangle, parallelogram, square and trapezoids. We solved for x for each of the shapes and found the indicated angles. we also solved the missing angles for the Pythagorean theorem, the sine/cosine of the angles. I started to cover multi-step angles for right triangles and will continue next week since she just started on that.

Tutoring review by Anna in Bosque Farms, NM
Today the student and I went over solving multi-step algebraic equations where terms with variables appear on both sides of the equals sign. These problems required him to be comfortable with combining like terms and employing inverse operations to move terms from one side of the equation to the other. He was very good at asking himself right away if he could combine like terms at the start of any problem. We also discussed using inverse operations to add or subtract a term to both sides of the equation. We tried a sort of game to remember how to imagine that the equals sign is the border between two countries, and terms have to disguise themselves to cross. He seemed to like this so I hope it will continue to work. He did very well with the homework problems. I'd like to spend Wednesday working on some word problems and reviewing like terms and how to combine them across equals signs, before we look at his homework for the day.

Tutoring review by Layla in Bosque Farms, NM
During this session we worked on prime factorization of monomials, including negative monomials. We discussed the role of a variable as a "prime" as well as the use of negative 1. The student was able to factor with ease, showing difficulty only when needing to identify greater prime numbers. At these times, I reinforced the use of divisibility rules and encouraged her to use the resources that she has in her notebook (multiplication tables, prime numbers under 100). At the end of the session we worked with simplifying fractions using prime factorization. We also touched on multiplication and division with decimals, as this is an area that she needs continued support. She is showing great improvement over the course of these sessions. She has a greater level of confidence and motivation and seems to be retaining the skills that we have discussed.

Tutoring review by Abel in Bosque Farms, NM
The textbook is Conceptual Physics by Hewitt; the teacher is not doing the chapters in order. The student is mildly enthusiastic, having some trouble with the concepts. I reviewed as many chapters as possible-- chapters 9 through 13. The main focus was the current chapter, #9, potential and kinetic energy. We did a lot of problems, including a pendulum and railcars going up hills, etc. She seemed to understand it.

Tutoring review by Erin in Bosque Farms, NM
We went over practice the student had for her upcoming midterm, specifically problems involving partitioning line segments with points according to a set ratio. Since we had some extra time at the end we went over vocabulary she had for her language arts class which involved looking up the definition of words and using them in sentences.
