Todays agenda: Review multiplying fractions by a whole number. After discussing the lesson, The student was able to solve 4/4 word problems involving multiplying fractions with no problems. She is able to cross reduce to simplify the digits into easier numbers to solve independently! The student can correctly use the algorithm to solve problems of multiplying fractions (number 28 on diagnostic exam). Next we moved on to dividing fractions. She demonstrated knowledge of the algorithm to solve and had no difficulties in solving (number 11 on diagnostic exam). For the last 30 minutes, the student was able to work on problems from class. Her homework was on solving inequalities. We discussed zero pairs and used algebra tiles to isolate the variable in each inequality. Next week, I will be working with her on the use of algebra tiles to help solve equations/inequalities. She knows the signs (greater than, greater than or equal to, less than, less than or equal to). She demonstrated no problems graphing the inequality after the inequality was solved.

We worked on reading comprehension strategies. We played a place value game with hundreds, tens, and units, utilizing expanded notation. I plan to start addition with regrouping using manipulatives Wednesday, and hopefully we will get to the algorithm by Friday. Next week, I plan to introduce and practice subtraction with regrouping. The student is a kinesthetic learner, so manipulatives and active movement are very helpful. I will have some suggestions for place value activities she can do with the family.
