Tutoring review by Samia in Glendale, CA
Today, the student and I worked on the review materials provided by her teacher in preparation for the chapter exam on Monday. She has become quite fast at solving problems, which is great! We worked on some question types that are still giving her difficulty, such as implicit differentiation and the derivatives of exponential functions. I believe this improved her understanding and her ability to solve these problems has gotten a lot stronger. I am confident she will do well on Monday. I am available on Sunday if she needs to meet.

First session with the students. I talked with student 1 about his writing experience and some of his assignments from the school year. We practiced summarizing a book chapter and a little bit of revision. Then we planned to work on some persuasive writing for next time.  I had student 2 work on some sentence exercises using connecting words and creating compound sentences. Then we worked on brainstorming and writing a descriptive paragraph.

Tutoring review by Barbara in Glendale, CA
The student and I started off by looking over the essay she wrote. She's starting in a really solid place (I would estimate a score of about an 8) and she could make a lot of improvement with mindful practice. As we continue with practice essays, we'll try to drive home the basic structure of a successful essay and then add on the "extras" like strong use of transition words, making the best use of the chosen examples etc. Next, we launched into our first full review of the rest of the writing section (correcting sentences and paragraphs and identifying sentence errors). After a fair amount of writing section practice, we started in on some vocabulary review. For next week, I've asked the student to do a few minutes of vocabulary review every day and to do the writing sections of the second practice test.
