Tutoring review by Benjamin in Old West Durham, NC
Today I worked with two students. With the first, we went over combining mixed numbers and adding/subtracting numbers with decimal points. She understood the concepts in class, and started her homework on them. With the second student, we went over trend lines for a test he was about to have. We also went over a writing assignment he had for a survey he did in class. Overall, it was a good first session getting to know both of the students.

We started the session by reviewing a few questions from lab reports. With a test over nuclear chemistry coming up, the rest of the session was spent reviewing that subject.

Tutoring review by Angela in Old West Durham, NC
Student V had completed a test designed for halfway through the book. He seemed to have rushed through it and received 42.5/75. He was able to figure out most of his mistakes independently, so I really feel most of his mistakes were because of rushing. He made good progress on his reading workbook. Student G had a test on tenses, and much of the vocabulary was new to him. He seemed to understand it quickly, but made some mistakes on the test and his reading workbook because of rushing. I encourage him to take his time with his work!

I uploaded 2 worksheets on limits pretty similar to what the student's class has covered so we spent more than half on those problems. We looked at some examples he wanted to double check on.

Tutoring review by Anne in Old West Durham, NC
The student continues to get 100% on the homework type assessments. We covered three sections of precalculus today. The first one, on complex numbers, involved operations on complex numbers and the use of conjugates. The second was on the fundamental theorem of algebra and required finding zeros of polynomial functions. The third was about rational functions and especially the ability to find vertical and horizontal asymptotes. He continues to apply himself very well. He picked up the necessary skills quickly. I am encouraging him to take notes to make sure that his retention stays high. He is currently ahead of schedule in math and should be able to stay caught up.

We covered trig identities, unit circle, and radian/degree conversion. The student struggled with mechanics of conversions, but this will get easier with our continued practice.
