Tutoring review by Kyaw in Sebastopol, CA
In this session, I covered homework problems the student had for the hypotenuse theorem. We first went over her previous quiz and I explained the problems where she had gotten points taken off. She was able to do them correctly after. Then, I walked through the theorem step-by-step until she understood better. She then worked on homework problems related to the hypotenuse theorem. I helped her with several problems to set up the correct proportions and how to find/get to right answers. Over time, she absorbed the material better and was able to do problems on her own at the end. Our session was productive.

We completed a lot of chain rule review with a variety of problems. We then took time to complete some homework and optimization review. She seems to be getting better and more prepared for the test. I assigned for her to complete a practice test this weekend and take as much time as she needs but to let me know her total time needed.

Tutoring review by Lindsey in Sebastopol, CA
The student had finished her first day of a two-day test in her Algebra class. We reviewed all of the items from the study guide so that she could get her test back the next day and correct or re-work any problems she had not understood the first day. This was the study guide and test for Chapter 9, so it was on the same types of problems she has been working on over the past few weeks, including adding and subtracting polynomials, multiplying binomials and polynomials using the distributive property and FOIL, factoring, and solving equations using the zero property. The student did well by the time she finished the study guide and seemed pretty confident with the material.

Tutoring review by Hannah in Sebastopol, CA
In today's session we worked on a review packet covering topics including complementary, supplementary, and vertical angles. The biggest problem that seemed to come up for the student was how to tackle each problem; once we were past that she did very well. We tried to focus on techniques for identifying and starting problems based on the information available, but this is something that is going to take more practice. I also noticed she struggled with fractions and I am going to try and find some review material for her because that is something she is going to need to understand throughout this course. We are going to continue working on this same material in our next session.
