This time we were able to reviewed more of the student's ratio homework and she was really confident and happy to do the work. She feels ratios are much easier than other work she has dealt with. She also had a small win in class when the teacher was impressed with how she answered a question on ratios. Today we finished with ratios of length and time as well as simplifying fractions of larger scale. Taking breaks seems to be working well for her, as she needs to walk around and interact.

We worked on imaginary numbers and reviewing factoring. The student has been able to remember the different ways of factoring. I think what has helped is her increased practice at home and a constant review during our sessions of the different ways to solve quadratics. We moved on to imaginary numbers, where she had some issues with previous concepts like factoring a radical. I have noticed more and more progress recently.

Student A and I worked through some physics problems involving energy and work. We talked a lot about the law of conservation of energy, and the exchange between potential and kinetic. She was able to use the equations when given to her, but she gets a little stuck on keeping track of her units, and also sometimes doesn't see the next step in the problem. We'll work on that in our next session. Student B and I worked on a chemistry review. We hit a large variety of topics, but mostly we discussed periodic trends. We tried to remember the trends based on the nuclear charge (although I did not call it that). She will need some more review going forward.

Then we worked on mathematical modeling and plugging in values to solve for x. She was very pleasant and engaged. We discussed some reading comprehension strategies and math shortcuts.

We worked on the student's writing skills by practicing with paired paragraph essay responses. We also worked on previous exam multiple choice questions. He did very well; we are working on identifying what organizational strategy works best for him when it comes to approaching written response questions.
