Winchester Tutoring FAQ

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in Winchester?

The amount that you can expect to pay for a private tutor for students in Winchester will depend on the level of tutoring that you need. For example, a college student at Shenandoah University who is preparing to take the LSAT can expect to pay a different rate per lesson than someone attending James Wood High School who needs help getting caught up in their physical science class.

The amount of academic support that you need can be a factor as well. The parents of an elementary school student who needs to work with a tutor for several months to improve their reading comprehension might pay a lower rate per session than someone who only needs a few sessions to prepare for the GMAT or the MCAT. Our Educational Directors can give you a better idea of how much private tutoring will cost you.

Which tutoring subjects does Varsity Tutors offer for students in Winchester?

A private tutor can cover just about any subject that students wish to study, from basic reading and math for elementary school students to advanced algebra for high school and college students. Tutoring review by Valentina in Winchester, VA
The student studied math and chemistry today. We reviewed for her upcoming chemistry test and I think she is going to do very well. She is to review memorization concepts; a list of strong bases and acids. On math, we discussed factoring and radical equations.

The student and I worked on beginning to divide whole numbers by fractions and dividing fractions by whole numbers. Tape diagrams and other models really helped her visualize and understand the problem. Her class will be learning this material tomorrow (they were supposed to learn it today) so hopefully this pre-teaching will help her feel confident and get more out of the class lesson on the topic.

Tutoring review by Bernadette in Winchester, VA
During today's session, the student and I worked on multiplying and dividing numbers with exponents. He has a quiz this week on this concept. We worked through problems that were straightforward and others that took division and multiplication to solve. We worked through some basic problems, then we moved on to mixed operation problems. Some of the problems used order of operations with parentheses. For the next session, I would like to continue working on this concept.

Tutoring review by Liban in Winchester, VA
We went over independent events and binomial distribution. The student had no problem with directly applying the formulas associated with the topics, but she needed help with the concepts. I went over the definition of independence and presented some examples. I had her identify events that could be classified as independent to make sure she got the concept. We then reviewed conditional probability with both Venn diagrams and two-way tables. She really only needed help with notation before attempting problems. We finished the session going over simulation setup.

Today, we completed the student's final math project. We interpreted a graph, found the slope of each section and equation of each line on the graph, and finally created a story that corresponded with the graph and filmed it.

Tutoring review by Jennifer in Winchester, VA
Today we covered single and multiple variable inequalities. The student seemed to have a firm grasp of the material today, but had a hard time with small things such as bringing down the negative sign as the session went on. He had a confident attitude toward the material. He knew the material very well today and kept a positive attitude during the session. Because he would make small mistakes here and there, we did discuss once again checking over each question for small mistakes before moving on during the tests. He has been improving greatly since the first session. He did well on his final and his homework grades have gone up significantly. Overall, this session went very well and it is great to see that he has improved as much as he has in the short amount of time that we have had tutoring.
