If you're a student currently attending a Virginia Beach school like Ocean Lakes High School or Cape Henry Collegiate, Varsity Tutors can set you up with top-notch Virginia Beach SAT prep. The SAT, which is a standardized exam accepted by many United States colleges and universities, evaluates whether or not a student is ready for college and has retained the knowledge and skills taught in school.
Many students will prepare to take the SAT during their junior year of high school. The SAT is a critical part of getting into the college or university of your choice, so you'll want to take advantage of the best prep opportunities in order to impress the admissions office. Varsity Tutors can set you up with a Virginia Beach SAT prep course to help you work towards your academic goals.
What can Virginia Beach SAT prep cover?
The SAT takes three hours to complete if you choose to opt out of the optional essay section. The required sections evaluate your skills in Math, Writing and Language, and Reading. The Math section measures your algebraic skills. The Writing and Language section assesses your ability to write using standard English conventions. The Reading section evaluates your ability to draw conclusions based on a given passage. Let's take a closer look at the skills you can review in an SAT prep course to help you feel confident on exam day.
The Math test is actually composed of two different parts, and you are only permitted to use a calculator during one of these sections. Together, the sections take 80 minutes to complete. You'll have to answer 58 multiple-choice and grid-in questions on the basics of algebra and other math concepts. The questions will require you to analyze a real-world issue and represent it mathematically. In an SAT prep class, you'll have the opportunity to practice solving algebraic problems accurately and quickly.
The Writing and Language section is your opportunity to showcase your editorial skills and improve how a passage develops ideas using syntax, style, and tone. You will not need to have any previous knowledge about the topic being presented in the passage to do well in this section of the exam. An SAT prep instructor can help you practice how to change punctuation, words, and sentence construction in order to improve a text's impact. You'll want to review proper verb tense, comma use, grammar, subject-verb agreement, and parallel construction for this part of the SAT. These concepts can be difficult and working with an expert teacher can help you feel confident in your abilities.
The Reading section will have passages which can come from classic world literature, economics articles, or even a United States founding document. You'll be required to read these passages and demonstrate your ability to find evidence to support a conclusion. This is your opportunity to showcase your ability to make conclusions based on historical, social studies, and science texts. An SAT prep course can help you practice how to identify relationships between passages and the accompanying information. You'll have 65 minutes to complete the 52 questions found on this part of the exam.
The optional Essay adds 50 minutes to your total SAT exam time. You'll be required to write a single essay response. This section will provide you with a passage in which an author makes an argument. Your job is to consider the author's use of evidence, concept development, and persuasive technique. You'll need to assess the argument but will not be asked to give your own opinion on the issue.
Whether you want to focus on a single section or do a more comprehensive review, Varsity Tutors can set you up with the right SAT prep opportunity to help you as you work towards your educational goals.

...is something truly amazing about spreading knowledge and curiosity. I am also a very empathetic person, so I take on my students' goals and struggles as my own. I commit to helping my students and I have the skills to do so. I have a natural aptitude for education, have studied and learned about the profession while earning my master's degree in teaching, and have many years of experience tutoring and teaching students.... I believe the most important attributes a teacher can have are empathy, determination, and flexibility. Empathy is vital because a teacher must see things from the students' perspective in order to guide them. A teacher must also possess determination because there are many obstacles to overcome. A teacher must be the driving force in the class that keeps everyone moving towards their objective, and by doing so demonstrates to the students that the way to succeed is by never giving up. Determination, however, must be paired with flexibility. No strategy will be right for every student. A teacher must be excited about finding the best way to serve each student based on their individual needs. A teacher must also be flexible in the face of those factors that are beyond his or her control, and find the way to do as much for the students as possible no matter the circumstances.

...interesting or important 'just because', we have to discover how it's related to our whole world and especially to things the student already knows they care about. Second, getting to know the student- everyone has unique talents, tendencies, and goals. There is an area of overlap between each school subject (even standardized tests, which require critical thinking!) and a student's goals, and it's usually bigger than it first appears.
