Varsity Tutors can assist students who are preparing for a graduate program or business school by setting them up with a Washington DC GRE prep course. The GRE, or Graduate Record Examination, is a crucial part of the application process of graduate and business schools across the country. It measures a student's ability to think critically and analyze written material. It is administered worldwide, and it is accepted by thousands of colleges and universities. It can also be a difficult hurdle to overcome for students who haven't prepared for it.
Whether you wish to attend a school in Washington DC, such as George Washington University or Georgetown University, or you plan to apply elsewhere, it's important that you put your best foot forward when it comes time for you to take the GRE. Varsity Tutors can help connect you with a GRE prep solution that can help you better understand each section of the GRE and prepare for the exam. We can also connect you with a Washington DC GRE prep class if you are considering receiving extra help for your preparation. No matter what your needs may be or what your schedule is like, Varsity Tutors can help you find a tutor or preparation class that will help you to better understand the exam.
What Can Washington DC GRE Preparation Cover?
The GRE is divided into three sections: Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. The entire test takes about three hours and 45 minutes to complete, and it is usually administered by computer in most parts of the world. There may also be an unscored experimental research section that is used to try out questions for possible future use.
The first section you will encounter is the Analytical Writing section. This section consists of two tasks. The first is to analyze an issue, and the second is to analyze an argument. You will have 30 minutes to complete each task. The goal of the Analytical Writing section is to assess your ability to articulate complex concepts effectively and clearly, support your ideas with clear examples and reasoning, use accompanying evidence to examine claims, and maintain a focused and coherent discussion. Of course, the section will also test your command of written English. Strategies that come in handy in this section are to carefully assess each task and plan your responses before writing them down. If you have enough time, you will also want to check your responses for errors and clarity.
The second section of the GRE is the Verbal Reasoning section. The goal of this section is to test your ability to summarize passages, understand the meanings of words and phrases, and your ability to interpret the meaning of a passage from context clues. This will require you to answer questions about reading comprehension, test completion, and sentence equivalence. The reading comprehension questions will require you to read passages and answer questions related to them. There are approximately 10 passages per test with one to six questions per passage.
The test completion questions are fill-in-the-blank questions in which you choose the best of three to five words to fill in the blank sections of short passages. Meanwhile, the sentence equivalence questions will require you to complete sentences based on partial information in a sentence fragment.
The third section of the GRE is the Quantitative Reasoning section. This is meant to assess basic math skills, your understanding of basic math concepts, and your ability to solve problems using quantitative methods. The content areas that are covered include arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. You will encounter multiple-choice questions (some with more than one correct answer) and quantitative comparison questions as well as numeric entry.
There may also be Experimental and Research sections that are used to test questions and concepts that may show up on future versions of the GRE. The Experimental section is usually embedded within the Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning sections and is not explicitly identified, while the Research section is clearly identified and optional.
What are the Benefits of Different Types of Washington DC GRE Prep?
The GRE assesses reading comprehension and various math skills. Some students will excel in one or more of these areas, but few will be able to handle all of them. This is where Washington DC GRE prep can help you. We at Varsity Tutors will be able to connect you with a reliable Washington DC GRE tutor who may be able to recognize the areas where you are struggling and help you better prepare for them when they come up on the test. For example, you might have no problems whatsoever with the Verbal Reasoning or Analytical Writing sections, but you might stumble when it comes to algebra and geometry. The right tutor may be able to help you better understand these concepts so that you can apply them to the Quantitative Reasoning section of the GRE. If you have a good handle on the material and your problem lies more in test anxiety, we can provide you with the preparation materials that will help calm your nerves as well as a tutor who might be able to guide you through some practice questions.
It's always important to remember that no two people learn exactly the same way when it comes to test preparation. No matter what your learning style may be, it's important to find a test preparation solution that will best suit you and your schedule.

First with them, and also my friends, I noticed that I really enjoyed helping people understand something they were struggling with. Thats why I hope to tutor as many students as I can handle. The thing I enjoy most about teaching is the opportunity...

After graduating with a degree in philosophy, my conscience left me with no choice but to find a job doing something meaningful. Like Aristotle, I think the ability to think for yourself is essential to living a happy life. Like Socrates, I think inquiry is essential to cultivating this ability. I love people and I love conversation. To engage personally while exchanging and inspiring ideas is, for me, one of life's greatest pleasures.... I strive to engage my students as much as possible by asking questions, while providing them with the background, support, and confidence required to learn. Before I start tutoring, I spend time reviewing the concepts until I have a renewed, thorough understanding and appreciation of the topic.
