Varsity Tutors can help students prepare for college entry exams by setting them up with a comprehensive Boulder ACT course. If you or your student needs extra assistance when reviewing the in-depth material covered in this exam, this online learning experience is one of the best ways to move forward.

Students from top schools in the area, including Fairview High School and Boulder High School, all prepare for college entrance exams like the ACT if they want to go to college. How well you perform on this test plays a role in whether you get accepted into a good college or not, so it's important that you approach test day confident and ready. Many students admit that preparing for the ACT is challenging due to the comprehensive nature of the exam. If you find the study process overwhelming or confusing, you may benefit from taking a Boulder ACT course to freshen up.

What does the Boulder ACT course cover?

The ACT is divided up into four sections: Math, Reading, English, and Science. Each section asks a series of questions that tests your knowledge of that subject and what you've learned throughout your high school education. You'll be given 2 hours and 55 minutes, breaks excluded, to complete the entire test. While this seems like a lot of time, keep in mind that the ACT covers a lot of content, so it's important that you're prepared for test day so you don't get stuck on a few challenging questions. But that's not all. The test also has an optional writing component, the ACT Plus Writing, which adds an additional 40 minutes to your testing time.

You'll have an hour to complete the Math section, which consists of 60 questions covering topics like geometry, trigonometry, and all algebra. When studying for this portion, make sure to familiarize yourself with concepts from pre-algebra as well as elementary and intermediate algebra.

The Reading section is comprised of 40 questions that you'll have 35 minutes to answer. Here, you'll be given several passages to read. You'll need to extract information from these passages to answer the questions. This can be difficult, as you'll need to have strong analytical skills and be able to use contextual clues to solve problems.

Next is the English section. This portion of the test looks at your understanding and command of the English language. It consists of 75 questions which you'll need to answer in 45 minutes. Everything from your understanding of grammar to your ability to correctly apply English's various styles and tones is evaluated in this section.

The 40-question Science portion looks at your understanding of scientific concepts, as well as your ability to solve problems by interpreting data. This section lasts 35 minutes and covers a number of challenging topics, from earth sciences to more difficult subjects like biology, chemistry, and physics.

Finally, there's the optional Writing component. You're given 40 minutes to complete this section and are assessed on your command of written English as well as your ability to create a well-structured argument. The format of the Writing section is simple: you're given an issue with multiple perspectives, and then you're asked to write your own response to this issue while comparing and contrasting elements from one or more of the perspectives given.

How does a Boulder ACT class help me prepare?

The course is held in an online, collaborative environment led by a professional instructor. There, you'll work alongside other college-bound students who are also preparing for the ACT. It's this collaborative element that gives most students an advantage over those who self-study. That's because instead of memorizing formulas and definitions, you're actively working together to overcome problems. You and your peers can share knowledge, offer tips, and learn in an engaging virtual classroom that helps you gain a true understanding of the material.

But the benefits of a Boulder ACT class don't stop there. Along with offering the same level of interaction as a real-world classroom, the class is completely flexible. You can choose when and where you want to study, making it an attractive choice for students who're busying and constantly on the go. In fact, many students prefer learning in virtual classrooms because of their stress-free nature. Since you don't have to worry about cramming a study session into your already busy day, you can review important concepts at a time that works for you. This is important for creating a peaceful learning environment that minimizes stress and anxiety when it's time to take the actual exam.
