Learning to speak, read, and write in a new language enriched my life and opened up a new world of culture and experience. As a French teacher and tutor, my ultimate goal is to bring learning French to life for my students. I came to teaching after teaching in France for a year and spending a few years working in tech in San Francisco. I am a licensed teacher of French, English, and ESOL with experience teaching grades K-2, 6th, 9th and 10th as well as one-on-one and small group tutoring in French. I plan lessons that bring art, food, games and geography together with language practice. For younger students, I incorporate puppets and role play as well as song and movement. For older students, I make the more academic aspects of written and spoken French transparent and achievable by listening to students and breaking down complex ideas. I have a near-native accent and a nuanced understanding of grammatical structure from years of studying and teaching higher level French. I would love to work with all levels of French learners from those looking to brush up their French for their next journey abroad to students from preschool to high school!
As an English Language Arts teacher and English major, I love to work with students to write fluid, effective essays and analyze complex literary and nonfiction texts. Connecting students' interests to their work is my priority, and I like to use media, nature, sports, games, and online resources to give them as many tools as possible to be great writers and readers. I work with students to empower them to be their own editors, and I give actionable feedback at each stage of the writing process. I hope to get to work with you on your next essay soon!
