If you're a college-bound student who wants to score well on the ACT, Varsity Tutors can help you prepare for test day by setting you up with an in-depth Cleveland ACT course. This will help you better understand the comprehensive material covered on the exam so that you're more likely to approach test day feeling calm and prepared.

The ACT is a popular college entrance exam that most students take before applying to colleges and universities. Pupils from across Cleveland, Ohio, including those attending top schools like Saint Ignatius High School and Shaker Heights High School, prepare for this test every year. What's more, many admit that the ACT is one of the more challenging assessments they've prepared for due to its comprehensive nature. Moreover, ACT scores are one of the major factors that admissions departments look at when accepting new students. For this reason, we recommend you study through a Cleveland ACT course before taking the exam so that you don't have to worry about taking it again to get the score you're aiming for.

What does the Cleveland ACT course cover?

The course covers everything that you'll encounter on the ACT, which is essentially what you've learned over the course of your high school education. More specifically, it covers the four sections of the ACT exam: Math, Reading, English, and Science. The test also has an optional Writing section, which is also covered in the test.

Overall, the ACT will take you 2 hours and 55 minutes to complete, excluding breaks. If you decide to take the optional ACT Plus Writing section, the test time increases to 3 hours and 35 minutes. As you can imagine, that's a lot of material to cover in such a short amount of time, which is why you want to make sure you study efficiently on the days leading up to the exam.

The Math section will take you an hour to complete. It contains 60 questions covering subjects like algebra, trigonometry, and geometry. When studying, make sure you don't focus on the more advanced topics. Questions covering pre-algebra and elementary algebra will also make an appearance on the test.

For the Reading portion of the test, you'll be expected to answer 40 questions within a 35-minute timeframe. This can be quite challenging for some students, as you'll need to read multiple passages in that time as well. To pass the Reading section, you need to be able to extract information from passages and apply that info to corresponding questions. Along with having sharp reading comprehension skills, you should also be able to solve problems using context, logic, and reason.

The English section looks at your grasp of the English language. It covers everything from grammar and punctuation, to sentence structure and topic development. It consists of 75 questions, which you're given 45 minutes to complete. While this section may seem straightforward, a number of students admit that it's one of the more challenging sections on the test. The reason for that is because you're not just tested on your understanding of grammar rules, but also how well you understand subtle nuances in the different styles and tones within the language.

Finally, there's the Science portion of the exam. Here, you'll have to answer 40 questions in a 35-minute timeframe. These questions cover all the major scientific disciplines covered in high school, from simple concepts within Earth sciences to more challenging theories found in physics, chemistry, and biology. Keep in mind that you'll be expected to do more than memorize theories if you want to ace this section. A large part of the Science section requires you to analyze scientific data presented to you in multiple formats, and apply that data to answer problems using the scientific method.

If you choose to do the ACT Plus Writing section, you'll have 40 minutes to answer a single question in essay format. Accompanying the question are three answers, and each answer offers a different perspective on the question. When writing your response, you need to include one or more of these perspectives in your essay, as well as share some of your own thoughts and ideas.
