Varsity Tutors can help you find excellent Cleveland SSAT prep to help your student get the most out of their time before the exam. The SSAT, or Secondary Schools Admission Test, allows private schools to measure and compare your student's abilities against others during admissions. Your student's SSAT score is an important part of their application to an independent school. You can give them a little extra support by letting Varsity Tutors set them up with a prep course or a private mentor.
What can my student review during Cleveland SSAT prep?
Used by many private and independent schools, the SSAT is a standardized test that assesses students between third and 11th grade. It focuses on the math, reading, and verbal skills they should have gained up to their current grade level. The Elementary, Middle, and Upper Level SSAT each include a Writing Sample and Experimental section, both of which are unscored. The Experimental section is used to develop new tests. Let's look at each test level to get an idea of what your student can expect.
The Elementary Level SSAT is used for third- and fourth-grade students applying for a fourth- or fifth-grade independent school. They will have an hour and 50 minutes to complete the five sections: Writing Sample, Reading, Verbal, Quantitative/Math, and Experimental. The Writing Sample presents a single picture, which your child must use to write a complete short story. The main focus is on their ability to organize an essay while using proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. The Reading section consists of seven passages followed by four questions, which relate to concepts like main ideas, key information, and other reading comprehension skills. The Verbal section spans 30 questions to measure word skills, such as synonyms and analogies. Finally, the Quantitative section addresses your student's math skills, including fractions, shapes, division, and multiplication.
The Upper and Middle Levels of the SSAT are similar to the Elementary. The sections are Writing Sample, Quantitative 1, Reading, Verbal, Quantitative 2, and Experimental. Your student will have two hours and 50 minutes. The Middle Level SSAT is offered to 5th to 7th-grade students applying for an independent middle school, there are several skills they will need to showcase on this exam. The Writing Sample allows them to choose between two prompts which ask them to write a creative story. This section aims to assess their organizational and planning skills, as well as basic writing abilities. Your student will have to recall and apply a variety of concepts to complete this exam, such as data analysis, inference and prediction based on passages, and grade-level appropriate vocabulary. The Upper SSAT takes a more advanced approach to the topics listed above. For instance, your student's Writing Sample will allow them to choose to write a story or an essay. They will need to be able to support their statements with examples while demonstrating strong organizational and persuasive writing skills.
Can my student benefit from a different approach to Cleveland SSAT prep?
Varsity Tutors can help you explore two of the most effective forms of test prep available: prep courses and private tutoring. We understand that different students need different things when they study. Some prefer to work in groups while others thrive under personalized instruction. Still others opt for a combination of the two. Here, we will go over the advantages available with both options.
If your student would like to learn with a group, we can enroll them in a Cleveland SSAT prep course. They can sign up anytime since new sessions start on a weekly basis. You can find courses on any section of the test. If your student has a busy schedule, we can help you find a session that can fit right in.
Classes are conducted entirely online through a virtual classroom. Your student can join their peers in discussions and activities led by an expert who follows an SSAT-based curriculum. We thoroughly vet each instructor to ensure that they are well-versed on the exam and have the skills necessary to help your student as they go after their testing goals. Your student's instructor can go over different aspects of the test, review concepts, and introduce different testing techniques that can help them quickly plan their essay. The class instructor can set aside time to work with your student if they have trouble understanding anything as well.
Alternatively, we can get your student set up with a Cleveland SSAT tutor. Private tutoring can take a personalized approach to test prep. Your student's instructor can get to know their interests, goals, skills, areas of opportunity, and learning personality to develop a Cleveland SSAT prep plan that is efficient and focused. A private mentor can use teaching strategies and materials that can appeal to your student's learning needs. They can incorporate activities like practice tests, writing prompts, and more to keep them engaged as they work.
One-on-one learning allows your student to ask as many questions as they need to while they work. Your student won't have to review everything on the exam. Instead, their instructor can skip past content they have a firm grasp on to focus on the areas in which they have the most room to develop their skills. A private tutor can even regularly assess your student to ensure they are on the right track.
How can I get my student set up with comprehensive Cleveland SSAT preparation?
Investing in your student's academic future can pay off for years to come. Whether they take a Cleveland SSAT prep class or work one-on-one with a personal instructor, your student can build their test-taking and study skills with the support of an expert. These abilities can allow your student to not only better prepare on their own in the future, but to also hone their knowledge of the concepts and skills assessed by this test. Reach out to Varsity Tutors to learn more about how your student can take advantage of the benefits offered by these test review opportunities.

An educator that understands that each student learns differently, socializes differently, and learns at a different pace. A teacher who understands that the mission of educators and students is to collaboratively develop thoughts and minds that lead to healthy socialization, and academic success.... To be a great educator, one must know how to tailor the curriculum to the individual student. It is the educator's job to identify why some students struggle, and to then implement effective strategies to get students over their learning obstacles.
