Varsity Tutors can get you set up with effective Dallas Fort Worth USMLE prep in the form of online classes or private instruction. The USMLE is offered to those who are pursuing their medical license in the United States. Whether you're taking the first or the final stage of the USMLE, you can benefit from a comprehensive review of the content on the test. If you've been studying at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, the University of North Texas Health Science Center, or any other area medical school, you can get the support you need to go after your goals.
What are the concepts Dallas Fort Worth USMLE prep can help me study?
The USMLE, or the United States Medical Licensing Exams, consist of three different tests: Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3. Each exam is progressively more challenging in terms of skill level. In order to take Step 3, you will need to pass the first two. While Step 1 and Step 2 are available in any order, but most students choose to take Step 1 after their second year and Step 2 during their fourth year. The Step 3 exam is usually taken during postgraduate training. In all, students must finish the three steps within seven years.
The Step 1 exam assesses your grasp of the basic scientific concepts you will need to understand in order to do well in the medical field. Administered by computer, there are 280 multiple-choice questions split between seven hour-long blocks. You will need to demonstrate a solid understanding of individual organ systems, therapeutic principles, and many other topics in order to succeed on this exam.
The USMLE Step 2 consists of two tests: Step 2 Clinical Skills and Step 2 Clinical Knowledge. Step 2 CK spans 316 multiple-choice questions divided into eight 60-minute segments. The concepts covered in the exam primarily focus on either disease category or physician task. Step 2 CS, on the other hand, is an interactive assessment that consists of 12 patient cases that you will need to diagnose. You will have 15 minutes to interact with each patient, all of whom are actors, and 10 minutes to record notes. The CS focuses on three areas: spoken English proficiency, communication and interpersonal skills, and integrated clinical encounter.
The last exam is the USMLE Step 3. Unlike the previous exams, Step 3 takes two days in total to complete. Step 3 is unique in that it includes 13 computer-based case simulations that are like the interactive exam taken in the Step 2 CS exam. In all, there are 500 questions split 45-55% on patient management with the remainder addressing your abilities in regard to history, diagnostic studies, and other concepts.
