Varsity Tutors can help high school students preparing to take college entrance exams (like the ACT) to get some structure and guidance in their studying when they connect with a qualified and eager Dayton ACT tutor or join a Dayton ACT prep course. Whether you know you'll be taking college entrance exams in the next few months or you know that you're not attending college for a while, it's not uncommon for high school juniors to spend some time thinking about their college application process and their best options.
Typically, students will have to take one of two college admissions tests, like the ACT, to get the scores that college entrance boards use to judge whether you'll be a good fit for their programs. Many students in Dayton, including those who attend Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School or Butler High School, choose to take the ACT. It's vital that they do the best they possibly can on this test. There are four exam sections that you'll have to take, as well as an optional section. This comprehensive exam includes sections on Science, Math, Reading, and English, as well as an optional Writing section. As you start to think about these tests, you may want to find Dayton ACT prep to give you a more solid understanding of these topics, and Varsity Tutors can connect you with a Dayton ACT tutor or find a Dayton ACT prep class.
What does Dayton ACT prep cover?
For the ACT exam covering English, Science, Math, and Reading, you'll have 2 hours and 55 minutes to finish the exam. Adding the Writing Section gives you another 40 minutes to complete the full five sections of the exam. Let's take a look at each section of the ACT exam, so that you have an idea of what you'll be facing when you sit down to take your test.
There are 75 multiple choice questions in the English section. Those questions include passages to read and analyze. You'll find questions that explore your ability and comfort with sentence structure, topic development, writing style, and tone. You'll have 45 minutes to finish this section.
In the Science section, there are 40 multiple choice questions that dive into chemistry, Earth and space sciences, physics, and biology. The aim of these questions is to see how well you can use the scientific method and scientific procedures. You'll have 35 minutes to finish this section.
The Math section features 60 multiple choice questions that look at elementary and intermediate algebra, coordinate and plane geometry, trigonometry, and pre-algebra. You'll have 60 minutes to complete the section.
In the Reading section, you'll have 35 questions to answer in 40 minutes. These include passages that you'll be asked to read, then answer questions that judge your ability to use texts in reasoning, to determine meanings, and judge connections between different texts.
The optional Writing section gives you 40 minutes to read a passage that features multiple perspectives on an issue. You'll be asked to respond in a well-written, organized essay after you've analyzed it.
What are the benefits of Dayton ACT Prep?
Whether you're looking for group-style experience as you study or you prefer one-on-one instruction, Varsity Tutors can connect you with quality resources. Both have benefits, and some students even choose to combine both methods. Let's talk about what you might experience taking a Dayton ACT prep course or working with a Dayton ACT instructor one-on-one.
If you're a student who would prefer an ACT class with other students, Varsity Tutors' Dayton ACT prep class is an option. These classes are delivered through our Live Learning Platform, using the internet. It's just like you're in the same classroom with an instructor and other students who are looking for the same help. There's a benefit to working with other students - you'll have exposure to their thought processes and they can explain topics that you might struggle with. You'll have the support of the others in your group, but you'll also be able to interact with your instructor privately when necessary. There's flexibility in the group study option as well. There are classes starting each week, and you can choose whether your class is two weeks or four.
For those who want focused, private academic coaching and one-on-one attention, we can connect you with a Dayton ACT prep tutor. In independent sessions with an academic coach, you'll be able to review each of the sections that you can expect to see on this college entrance exam. When you work with an instructor privately, there's much more focused attention than you might get in a group setting.
The personalization starts with the first session, where you and your ACT tutor get to know each other. You'll learn how they interact with people, and they'll learn about your personality, your learning style, and your academic strengths and areas of opportunity. They'll use that information to create a customized plan of study, focusing on the topics you might struggle with, while still highlighting the topics you're stronger in. If you get a grasp of certain topics you thought you'd struggle with, your instructor can rearrange the study schedule, and look for study aids that might help with other troublesome topics. They can also administer practice exams to give you a sense of what you can expect on test day.
