What can Detroit MCAT prep help me study?
The MCAT has four sections: Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior, Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, and Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems. It's a computer-based exam, so there's no need for you to bring writing utensils. The test has 230 multiple-choice questions, and the total time you'll spend at the test center is around seven hours and 30 minutes. The exam covers concepts that medical school faculty and medical school students think should play a role in an aspiring medical student's success. Learn more about the MCAT by reading the sections below.
The Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior portion has 59 questions in the form of 10 passage-based sets and 15 independent questions. It tests you on introductory psychology, introductory sociology, and biology. This section consists of concepts like well-being, behavior changes, what people think about themselves and others, and more. You have one hour and 35 minutes to answer the questions.
The Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems portion contains 59 questions made up of 10 passage-based sets and 15 independent questions. It covers basic biochemistry, organic chemistry, general chemistry, and organic chemistry. It assesses your knowledge of adaptation, acquiring energy and materials, how cells and organ systems act independently as well as work together, and other concepts. Here, you have a time limit of one hour and 35 minutes.
The Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills portion has 53 questions comprised of nine passage-based sets of questions. It measures your skills in English, the humanities, and social sciences. You're required to know how to infer meaning from compositional elements, how to find the basic components of a text, and how to apply ideas from the passage to new contexts. It has a time limit of one and a half hours.
The Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems portion has 59 questions containing 10 passage-based sets and 15 independent questions. This section tests you on introductory biology, introductory physics, basic biochemistry, organic and inorganic chemistry, and general chemistry. Its time limit is one hour and 35 minutes.
You'll get five different scores on the MCAT: one for each of the sections and one combined score. Each portion of the exam is scored on a scale that ranges from 118 points to 132 points. The combined total ranges from 472 points to 528 points. Most U.S. medical schools require MCAT scores along with your application. There could be experimental questions in any of the sections, but they are unscored.

In this virtual classroom, you communicate with a teacher and other pupils to go over sections of the MCAT. You all can study subjects like sociology and psychology to prepare for the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section. Perhaps you all can improve your biology and chemistry knowledge by reviewing the Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section. The teacher can assist you with clever test-taking strategies such as decoding confusing-sounding questions.
If you decide to work with a Detroit MCAT tutor, you'll work with someone who is able to directly address your needs since each session only involves the two of you. Your private instructor can focus on the areas where you need the most help. For instance, if a concept isn't clear to you, an educator can explain it using different methodologies to attempt to help you understand it better. Or, if you're eager to learn new material, they can direct the lesson at a fast pace. Maybe you would like some advice on how to stay on task and reduce procrastination. A private instructor can advise you in building strong study and organizational skills. Are you unsure about which medical school you would like to attend? A private instructor can talk to you about your goals and aspirations while providing their insight to help you make an informed decision.
