Studying for your upcoming MCAT is a little tricky, and that's why you might consider contacting Varsity Tutors and booking a Miami MCAT prep course. Otherwise known as the Medical College Admissions Test, the MCAT might be your first stepping stone towards a fully-fledged career in medicine. In order to become a doctor or a physician, you'll first need to get accepted into medical school, and the MCAT assesses whether or not you're truly ready for the demands of these academic institutions. Almost every single medical school in the United States requires you to submit your MCAT scores as part of your application process. Perhaps you've got your eye on the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, or the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. You can bet that both schools will take your MCAT score into account.
The MCAT is completely computerized in nature. There are four sections, and each will test different skills and abilities. These skills might include critical thinking, written analysis, and having an understanding of various scientific concepts. The section on Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems focuses mostly on the human body. The section which focuses on Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills revolves mostly around reading comprehension and verbal reasoning. The section on Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems focuses mostly on biochemical processes and cell functions. The section on Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior focuses on psychology, interacting with people, and mental health issues.
What Might A Miami MCAT Course Cover?
When you join a Miami MCAT course, you'll enter into a virtual classroom setting. Other like-minded students will join you in this virtual classroom, and you'll learn as a group under a highly qualified, expert instructor. This instructor will understand what it takes to perform well on the MCAT, and they could help you gain a much deeper understanding of all the concepts covered in this detailed and extensive test. You'll first learn about how the MCAT is structured, how the test is scored, and how to approach each section. Then, you might learn about the specifics of the various sections. You'll also have the chance to practice various questions in order to prepare for the MCAT as best you can.
Make no mistake, this is a long test. Each of the four sections in the MCAT take 90 to 95 minutes to complete. When combined, all four sections allow you approximately 6 hours and 15 minutes to complete. Allowing for breaks, this means you could be seated in the testing location for over 7 hours. Such a long test requires a lot of focus and discipline. Studying in an MCAT course can help you approach this long test in a tactical and organized manner. Each of the four sections has a total of 59 questions, except for the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills, which has 53 questions. Your total score will range from 472 to 528, with 472 being the lowest possible score.
The section covering Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems includes 10 passage-based sets of questions and 15 independent questions. This section focuses mostly on the processes unique to living beings, scientific inquiry, and general reasoning skills. You'll need to know general, organic and basic chemistry skills. You'll all need introductory biology skills. Some of the questions might focus on organ and cell functions. You'll need to know how organisms maintain a constant internal environment, or how they sense and respond to external environments. However, this section covers a wide range of concepts and is not at all limited to the ones listed here.
Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior is another important area on the MCAT. This section focuses on how medical professionals interact with the population. In order to excel in the medical field, you need to know how to serve and approach a diverse population. This section focuses on the skills you'll need to accomplish this. In order to perform well in this area, you'll need basic psychology, sociology, and biology skills. You might be asked to answer questions based on behavioral changes you could witness in patients. You will also be asked about cultural and social differences between different people, and how that affects the medical field. You might even be asked to answer questions based on how access to resources impacts people's general well-being. These are just a few examples of questions you will face in this section.
The Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section is the only section with just 53 questions. You'll be faced with a number of written passages that are derived from various sources not limited to the medical field, and these can come from the social sciences and humanities. That being said, you won't need any specific skills on these topics. You will need general reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, and analytical skills. You'll be asked to read these sources materials, make inferences, and be asked to extrapolate ideas within the text.
The section covering Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems focuses on the human body. This includes tissues, organs, mechanical processes, and more. In order to perform well in this section, you'll need to understand general, organic and inorganic chemistry. You'll also need physics skills, an understanding of biology, and a solid grasp on biochemistry. You might be asked questions about the functions of various human tissues, organs, and organ systems.

I am a biology graduate from the University of Texas at Austin and after having worked for two years, realized I missed the joy of being a student! I am currently studying to take my MCAT in January and look forward to sharing all of my science knowledge through tutoring. I look forward to sharing the tips and tricks that helped me succeed in high school and college.... Motivation has a lot to do with a sense of accomplishment. This sense of accomplishment is different for every person. Some require an A+, others would like to see their score go up by a letter grade. I like to help my students identify their own goal, show them how they are progressing, and make sure they realize how great their progress is. When students feel motivation, they are more likely to keep up with the material, study independently, and reach out when they need help!
